  • Amazing listen

Max is extremely intelligent and so easy to listen to. Hearing him talking to his guests almost feels like you’re sitting across the dinner table discussing the Bible in a casual, yet profound way. I enjoy hearing all the theological topics and I love that he and the guests make theology applicable. Also love how they talk about the church, always with a positive perspective but not afraid to mention its flaws.

I really appreciate Max and all the knowledge that he’s making available.

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

What Was Paul Doing with the Old Testament? A Conversation with Dr. David Lincicum
Q: Could you unpack just a little bit what you mean by the 'commentarial impulse' and how Paul's reception of Israel's scriptures informs later readers?
The impulse is Paul's habit of using past texts to interpret present realities, turning scripture into a living argument that addresses current community situations and ethics, not just a past event. This shapes how later Christians read the Old Testament through Paul's lens and how they continue to rely on Pauline citations as a framework for their own interpretation.
Were Luther and Calvin "Christian Nationalists"? A Conversation with Dr. Steven Tyra
Q: What is Calvin's view of dominion, and how does it contrast with Christian nationalist readings?
Calvin treats dominion as a future, eschatological reality tied to Messiah rather than a justification for earthly rule, highlighting a distinction between a future kingdom and present political power.
Were Luther and Calvin "Christian Nationalists"? A Conversation with Dr. Steven Tyra
Q: Could you summarize how Luther and Calvin understood Babel in relation to Pentecost?
They interpreted Babel as a warning against relying on human greatness, with Pentecost showing the true unity of the church across nations and languages, foreshadowing a gospel-centered unity rather than national arrogance.
The Divinity of Jesus in the Philippians Hymn: A Conversation with Dr. Crispin Fletcher-Louis
Q: What does the Philippians hymn reveal about the relation of God the Father and Lord Jesus Christ?
The hymn celebrates the one God revealed in two persons, emphasizing their distinct identities while remaining one.
How Did They Read the Prophets?: A Conversation with Dr. Michael Shepherd
Q: How do you approach the question of canon?
When I look at these texts and thinking of them as canonical, I'm not so much thinking of a list of books that has been declared authoritatively somewhere, but rather what do I see within these books in terms of them being shaped in light of one another?
