  • Decapitation in BoM

Fantastic episode! Would love to see John debate Tad Callister and all his “evidence“ that proves the BoM. And specifically focus on the literary history as related in the BoM. That would be very interesting.

  • Was good until it wasn’t

Loved the podcast until you started talking about politics 🙄

Nuanced member of the church here and don’t agree with your opinion on that aspect. Maybe leave your political opinions out of the conversation. You can’t speak for all of the nuanced Mormons. It’s very off putting.

  • Loses its own credibility

Tried an episode. Brought up good points, which is great and helpful. Also brings up stereotypes of faithful people in the church, multiple times in one episode, that are completely wrong. Loses its credibility.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep325: Who Authored the Book of Mormon Series: Episode 1
Q: What is Patrick's stance on Sidney Rigdon's role in the authorship question?
Patrick argues that Rigdon likely played a central role by obtaining and shaping the text from a separate author and adding sermons, with Joseph Smith acting as a conduit, which aligns with a Rigdon-involved three-voice theory rather than a sole-author scenario.
Ep321: The Mormon Smash & Dash w/ Dr. Randall Bell
Q: What is the core idea behind the Moroni Channel ads and their impact on public perception?
The guests explain that the Moroni Channel and similar ads push a Christian-facing branding that can blur distinctions between Mormonism and mainstream Christianity, raising questions about transparency and intent while influencing public perception.
Ep323:Sole Author Theory Challenged by Groundbreaking Analysis of Book of Mormon Wordprint Studies
Q: Did Joseph and Sidney Rigdon meet before the dictation began, and if so, what does the evidence suggest?
The episode reviews several lines of testimony suggesting some prior contact or familiarity, but the evidence is contested; overall the consensus in the discussion leans toward recognizing that there was some pre-dictation interaction, though not conclusive proof of a meeting that dictated the Book of Mormon text.
Ep320: A Logical Deconstruction of Mormonism w/ Bill Reel
Q: What makes this approach effective for engaging believers without being confrontational?
The approach is to present faithful sources and documents in a respectful, non-hostile way while clearly outlining the logical inconsistencies, encouraging readers to think critically without feeling attacked.
Ep308: Sermon Magic: A Textual Analysis of The Book of Mormon
Q: Could Joseph Smith have copied from existing texts?
The discussion contends that Smith was not copying a single source but weaving techniques from sermon culture and grimoire-like practices into a new, orally produced text.
