This host seems like he has an axe to grind
I grew up Mormon. I’d have what most would call a happy childhood but it definitely wasn’t normal and was certainly tainted by the church and the harsh standards they push on their members, especially the women. As a mom, I couldn’t continue to practice once I recognized how much it would hurt my babies. This podcast has helped me process the harm that was done to me and to understand that a lot of harmful thoughts were not me but the church. Thank you Dr. John Dehlin and hosts, you’ve made me a... more
After sampling enough of this show to understand its framing, I find John Dehlin’s project fundamentally dishonest. It speaks in the language of care, openness, and truth-seeking while operating as a polished pipeline away from LDS faith. The monetization makes the posture even less credible: this is not neutral support, but a professionalized business built around disaffection from the Church, proof that the road to hell is not always paved with good intentions.
I have listened to many interviews on Mormon Stories over the years, but John is not skilled at interviewing and has not shown any improvement over the years. He continually cuts off his guests, tells them to respond "really quickly", and then he himself will drone on with long explanations or his own opinions. He also cannot hide his biases and clearly shows when he is a fan or even he dislikes his guests, and it's painful and unprofessional.
I have found so much truth at Mormon Stories and LDS discussions that I as a convert to Mormon church never thought I’d find. They put the pieces together and have given all my questions validation. I’m forever thankful.

A long-running interview-focused show that centers on Mormon history, culture, and personal faith journeys, often featuring scholars, ex-M Mormon voices, and critics. Episodes frequently dissect historical events (Nauvoo era, polygamy, Book of Mormon archaeology), plus in-depth personal narratives about leaving or reconciling with the faith. A notable strength is the combination of rigorous historical context with intimate storytelling, and a willingness to challenge official narratives, which tends to attract listeners seeking thoughtful, nuanced discussions as they deconstruct high-demand religious dynamics.
