  • Really unkind

I am really disappointed by your episode about trans folks. I get that there are opposing perspectives in this controversial topic but it is very unfair to discuss trans rights and trans healthcare without including a trans person in the conversation. This is like having an episode about women’s rights without including a woman. Or talking about black people and the priesthood without talking to any black people about the pain that causes. (Actually, now that I type this, I realize you have ... more

  • The powerful brain of Bill.

That should be a tee shirt! With a Pinky and the Brain vibe. Bill is exceptional at educating. He chooses fascinating topics and can flawlessly break them down into understandable pieces. By the end you feel validated as a post-mo and edified on the church.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Joseph Smith’s Polygamy with Jeremy Hoop
Q: What is the main methodological challenge in interpreting the Clayton Journals?
The main challenge is deciding whether the journals are a contemporaneous, day-by-day record or a selectively crafted account shaped for external audiences, and how editorial changes or copies affect the evidentiary weight of polygamy-related entries.
From Jewish to Mormon and Beyond! RFM: 463
Q: What finally pushed you to step back and question the church's truth claims after so many years?
A persistent lack of transcendent experiences despite intense personal effort, combined with a conviction that evidence and neuroscience must guide beliefs, led him to re-evaluate core assumptions and consider other possibilities.
From Jewish to Mormon and Beyond! RFM: 463
Q: How did you approach the missionary discussions, given your background and epistemic standards?
He explains starting with open-minded questions, language differences with the missionaries, and eventually being impressed by their certainty, which prompted him to explore Mormon claims more deeply before seeking empirical validation.
From Jewish to Mormon and Beyond! RFM: 463
Q: Don, can you tell us a little bit about yourself before we get into your story?
The guest describes a trajectory from a Jewish upbringing with a strong scientific bent, through pre-med and psychology, into various spiritual explorations, culminating in a long Mormon phase and a gradual shift toward skepticism and openness to other possibilities.
Mormon Bishop Rebels: RFM: 446
Q: What does thriving look like now for you?
Nathan highlights authenticity, better communication with wife, and a more compassionate, service-oriented approach to others; Amy emphasizes emotional honesty and nonjudgmental outlooks.
