  • In praise of Dalanna Hanson

I love Dalanna, my daughter loves her. She has made a huge difference in the trajectory of my daughter’s life. At six she can now finally sleep all through the night, speak clearly, swallow correctly and stay out of pull-ups. My dental hygienist noticed my daughter at five had a tongue thrust. She didn’t mouth breathe but the thrust was a hidden sign of poor myofascial function. I can’t believe the difference after just one year of treatment. She will hopefully skip out on orthodontic braces-wor... more

#77. Heel Pain: Why Injections, Orthotics & Stretching Aren't Fixing It | Plantar Fasciitis Myths Debunked with Dr. Allison Bullinger PT, DPT
Q: What is one practical step listeners can take today to help their heel pain?
Start with calf isometrics by standing on the bottom step, rising onto the toes, and holding for a minute to fatigue the calf; this helps load the tissues appropriately and begins rebuilding strength, which is often more impactful than stretching alone.
#77. Heel Pain: Why Injections, Orthotics & Stretching Aren't Fixing It | Plantar Fasciitis Myths Debunked with Dr. Allison Bullinger PT, DPT
Q: Do orthotics or special shoes actually solve the problem?
Orthotics and special shoes tend to act as a band-aid by changing pressure points rather than addressing the underlying weakness or load tolerance. They can be temporary aids, but long-term resolution comes from strengthening and loading the tissues so they can handle daily activities without pain.
#77. Heel Pain: Why Injections, Orthotics & Stretching Aren't Fixing It | Plantar Fasciitis Myths Debunked with Dr. Allison Bullinger PT, DPT
Q: What do you say to the patient who has tried injections and orthotics and is asking what to do next?
I explain that many times the issue isn't true plantar fasciitis, so injections or orthotics may only provide temporary relief or address the wrong area. The key is to unload, then progressively reload the tissues through targeted strengthening, especially of the calves and related tendons, to build resilience and reduce pain long-term.
#34 - Why Your Pain Won’t Go Away: Chronic Pain & Healing the Mind-Body Connection - Kate Jones
Q: Can you explain the role of visualization in training and rehabilitation?
Visualization primes the brain for movement, helps with motor learning, and studies show it can yield meaningful performance gains even without physical practice.
#34 - Why Your Pain Won’t Go Away: Chronic Pain & Healing the Mind-Body Connection - Kate Jones
Q: How do you handle pain during new movements and avoid frightening clients?
Clarify whether the sensation is discomfort or pain, set a clear threshold, and progress gradually with isometrics and supported movements to rebuild trust.
