  • Quality Podcast from a couple of quality interviewers

Whether you’re into comics or not (what?! You’re not into comics?!), Cryptic Creator Corner is an entertaining listen - the conversation often strays into things like process, pop culture, and personal opinion, all for the better. Jimmy and Byron take turns hosting, and their questions are always thoughtful and can lead to some true insights into their guests and their work. I can personally vouch for this, as I’m not only a listener, but I’ve been a guest as well!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Trevor Mueller Interview - Bat Pat and Secret S.T.E.A.M. Society
Q: How would you describe the balance you strike between educational content and entertainment in your books for kids?
Mueller emphasizes making stories that feel accessible and fun while weaving educational elements, aiming to engage readers without talking down to them, and using charts and real-world topics (like horses) to spark curiosity.
Cavan Scott Interview - Iron & Frost
Q: How do you approach writing within licensed universes like Doctor Who or Star Wars?
I focus on the characters first and ensure the emotional core stays true, while using the existing world-building as a scaffold to tell new, character-driven stories. Collaboration with editors and artists helps align on canon needs and allows room for fresh takes.
Kenny Porter Interview - The New Space Age
Q: But why don't you tell listeners what The New Space Age is all about?
It's about a disgraced astronaut who, after his brother's mysterious disappearance, uses a blend of magic and science to explore space, driven by hope and a desire to uncover the truth.
Travis Gibb Interview - Holiday Spirits: The Monster Special
Q: Tell me about Summit and this new universe that is going to rival the big two.
Summit Comics is building a superhero universe run like an image-model, focused on yearly graphic novels that bring together many characters in a single, cohesive ongoing arc while allowing individual creators to own their work and participate in a fair compensation and exit structure.
Wells Thompson Interview - SMUT
Q: What comes after the Kickstarter for SMUT Volume 1?
A one-shot Bright of Frankenstein coming from SourcePoint Press, plus a new story for the SMUT team that leans more into fantastical Greek-mythology vibes while staying in the erotic comedy space, and several mini-series planned for next year.
