Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Off Panel #566: Not a Cover Band with Terry Moore
Q: Why pursue crowdfunding one-shots now alongside a Dark Horse deal, and how do these formats fit into your overall strategy?
It's about expanding formats and reaching different audiences; Kickstarter and Zoop serve different regions, while Dark Horse helps keep the backlist in print and reach wider channels.
Off Panel #566: Not a Cover Band with Terry Moore
Q: What was the experience like transitioning from long-running series to shorter runs and crowdfunding?
He explains that long runs hurt single-issue sales due to trade-waiting; shorter runs via crowdfunding provide sustainable cash flow and ongoing reader engagement.
Off Panel #566: Not a Cover Band with Terry Moore
Q: How are you feeling about the Kickstarter campaign launching soon, and do you get nervous, or is it old hat at this point?
He expresses excitement for a strong start in the first days, then a continued push to spread the word, and a pragmatic view of marketing—some people will miss the campaign until it's clearly visible.
Off Panel #564: Why We Love Comics with Joshua Williamson and Kelly Sue DeConnick
Q: Why do you love comics so much?
The host asks this to Kelly Sue DeConnick, who responds that comics are punk rock because they're fast, cheap, reactive, and highly experimental, which makes the form continually exciting to her.
Off Panel #562: REMIX! with Heidi MacDonald
Q: What are your thoughts on CB Cebulski's reassignment to Asia and the Akira Yoshida controversy?
They recognize the controversy, discuss the complexities of his background, and see the move as potentially leveraging his strengths in talent scouting and manga alignment while acknowledging the moral concerns of past actions.
