Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Off Panel #545: Inbetween with Faith Erin Hicks
Q: What was the process of translating emotional moments, like crying, into panel work for the book?
I aimed to push the feeling of emotion on the page by drawing on animation-inspired techniques and specific visual cues, such as Ghibli-style tears, to convey intensity without relying on dramatic action, so readers feel what the characters feel even in still images.
Off Panel #543: All Anti, No Hero with Skottie Young
Q: What was the foundation for Lobo and what made you want to do it beyond Lobo at all?
The foundation was a long-standing personal affinity for the character and a desire to bring him back to his core, space-faring, satirical roots, while keeping him nimble enough to fit into broader DC events and creator-owned flow. The project became a collaborative family effort with a trusted team.
Off Panel #540: Pivot! with Chris Condon
Q: What was your original plan before entering the comic industry?
I never planned on a career in comics; it was more about exploring interests and seeing where they led.
Off Panel #540: Pivot! with Chris Condon
Q: What advice would you give to a new writer who's trying to figure out how to make comics work for them?
Keep doing the work and don't be shy about sharing it. Be receptive to criticism and let it help guide your journey.
Off Panel #537: A Bad Trip with Charlie Adlard
Q: What are some key elements that guide your decisions when selecting projects?
Adlard highlights that enjoyment in drawing and the character depth are his primary considerations when choosing which projects to take on.
