Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Off Panel #550: Dangerous and Irresponsible with Matthew Rosenberg
Q: Why do you favor a large first issue and how do you balance creator-owned projects with big licensed work?
Rosenberg argues that investing pages in character development builds reader attachment, even if it costs more upfront; he explains that he values doing the best book possible and balancing risks with creator-owned projects funded by other revenue streams, acknowledging the hustle required to sustain both paths.
Off Panel #550: Dangerous and Irresponsible with Matthew Rosenberg
Q: What happened that led to you taking over Spawn and King Spawn, and how did you pitch it to Todd McFarlane?
McFarlane asked Rosenberg to write Spawn and possibly expand into King Spawn; after pitches, they settled on Rosenberg taking on both, with Todd pushing for a cohesive plan and the sequencing that fit his books, while Rosenberg emphasized writing the book he would make.
Off Panel #549: A Lifetime Process with Rafael Albuquerque
Q: What changed for you about your approach after American Vampire and before Absolute Green Arrow?
He notes a shift to more confident, experimental storytelling and collaboration with a strong colorist team, which allowed for bolder visual choices and a move away from pure DC-style refinement toward a more personal, intense horror aesthetic.
Off Panel #549: A Lifetime Process with Rafael Albuquerque
Q: When did Absolute Green Arrow come to you and what was the pitch like?
Rafael explains he was in the middle of Superman Unlimited when the pitch came, and he agreed to take it on as long as the schedule worked, viewing it as a defining project for his career.
Off Panel #548: Day Two with Pornsak Pichetshote
Q: How did Rafael Albuquerque shape the book after he came on board?
Rafael's involvement transformed the book into a dynamic, back-and-forth collaboration where deep, ongoing dialogue and immediate feedback on pages drive the storytelling, ensuring both creators stay on the same page and push the material to a stronger, more collaborative endpoint.
