  • Exactly What I’ve Been Waiting For

Let’s Talk Comics has quickly become my most anticipated weekly podcast. Jim is a great interviewer always asking thoughtful inside industry questions with a nice mix of more accessible ones for casual readers as well. With back to back episodes with David Finch and Jason Fabok I finally had to leave a review. The sense of community this show makes me feel like I’m in a private club and everyone is invited.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Charlie Adlard Talks Of The Earth and Longevity In Comics
Q: What were the early conversations with editors like, and how did you navigate getting work?
He recalls a time when editors were approachable at conventions, the importance of networking, and that getting a first gig often happened quickly if you showed you could deliver; the culture then allowed editors to offer work on the spot, which differed from today.
Charlie Adlard Talks Of The Earth and Longevity In Comics
Q: Was art and comics always the goal for you or was there a path where you could have done something else?
Charlie explains that comics and art have been intertwined since he was very young, and despite experimenting with other avenues like potential music influence and a brief detour into film/video, comics remained his true path. He emphasizes early passion and the natural fit of storytelling skills with comics.
Matthew Rosenberg on Building a World Without Humans in IF DESTRUCTION BE OUR LOT & Taking Over SPAWN
Q: What is Matt Rosenberg's take on Todd McFarlane Spawn and how does it differ from previous runs?
The approach is to make Spawn feel like a new creation that still honors the legacy. It's about balance: presenting Spawn as a public superhero in one book and as a clandestine, darker force in the other, King Spawn. The goal is to keep the essence of Spawn while expanding the storytelling possibilities and the visual language, including costume redesigns and a broader, more ambitious narrative scope.
Matthew Rosenberg on Building a World Without Humans in IF DESTRUCTION BE OUR LOT & Taking Over SPAWN
Q: What was the pitch to yourself for Spawn, and how did you approach it?
Todd McFarlane asked if I wanted to take over Spawn, and after a tough initial pitch, he framed it as wanting a book that felt like I wrote it but still true to Spawn. I decided to treat it as if I had just created Spawn, preserving the core while bringing a Rosenberg-driven voice, tone, and ambitious, big-picture scope. I avoided retconning continuity and aimed for a new era that would feel both like a love letter and a fresh direction.
Aditya Bidikar Talks In Your Skin and How Fandom Can Get Dangerous
Q: What's the goal for readers after finishing In Your Skin?
Bidikar hopes the book changes the reader, making them see themselves differently, and embraces the ambition even if it risks not succeeding.
