Reviews

4.5 out of 5 stars from 88 ratings
  • Great way to catch up on comics news

Dave and Nathan have sometimes corny humor but the chemistry works and they really shine when they are interviewing guests. They interview creators I would’ve never checked out otherwise. Also, it’s a great way to catch up on industry news if you’re mostly tuned out of it for majority of the week.

  • Way too much preamble

30 minutes of random nothing that isn’t in the description. Truly misleading and these guys aren’t charismatic or interesting enough to go off topic. Sorry not sorry - make a better show smh

  • Comics

This is absolutely the best comics podcast out. I know a good podcast when the presenter is covering a subject I may not be interested in but it keeps my attention.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Christian Ward uncut: Inside his next cosmic horror epic Event Horizon: Inferno
Q: What can readers expect in terms of pacing and scope compared to Dark Descent?
He notes Inferno is more physical and faster-paced, with a larger scope and more opportunities for bold visual storytelling, while ensuring the ending remains flexible to accommodate reader response and future installments if the project continues.
Christian Ward uncut: Inside his next cosmic horror epic Event Horizon: Inferno
Q: How do you balance honoring the Event Horizon DNA with introducing new elements and a different tone in Inferno?
Ward describes keeping the core themes—human condition, crew dynamics, and the gravity drive—intact while allowing character agency to drive the plot, using new settings, a distant time jump, and a new artist to push the visuals forward without erasing the original vibe.
Christian Ward uncut: Inside his next cosmic horror epic Event Horizon: Inferno
Q: What was the tipping point that convinced you to pursue Inferno as a sequel rather than a standalone, or a retread of the original film ideas?
Ward explains that the success of Dark Descent and the lure of expanding the lore while respecting the film created a natural pathway to Inferno, with the license acting as a springboard rather than a constraint. He wanted the story to feel like a creator-owned project in spirit, using constraints to drive creative risk rather than limit it.
Everyone in ‘American Caper’ is a disaster (and that’s the point)
Q: When you first saw the concept for American Caper, what immediately stood out as especially relevant to the moment we're living in?
Dan and Lazlow explain that the idea grew from their long collaboration and their background in satirizing real places and times, so the project naturally channels current social and political climates through archetypal characters and outrageous humor, while staying true to the craft of comic storytelling.
Phillip Kennedy Johnson talks Infernal Hulk, Marvel exclusivity, and Dungeons of Doom
Q: What makes Bruce Banner powerfully vulnerable in the Infernal Hulk project?
Johnson explains that Bruce's attempt to live a normal life while Hulk's threat grows creates a dramatic tension; Banner's desire for peace collides with the inevitability of monster-driven consequences, making him both a victim and agent of the chaos, which deepens the narrative beyond simple monster battles.
