  • Made in Brum

Really like most of the podcasts Made in Brum have produced. Main disappointment is having the Raise the Flag person on. That’s not a great representation of what’s good about the city.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S7 Ep3: DON BROADHURST: Commonwealth Gold, Losing My Mum & Changing Young Lives Through Boxing
Q: What would you tell young boxers about balancing sport with health and education?
Place equal emphasis on discipline in training, smart nutrition, and learning; boxing can be a vehicle for opportunities, but without a solid foundation in education and health, it's easy to burnout or derail.
S7 Ep3: DON BROADHURST: Commonwealth Gold, Losing My Mum & Changing Young Lives Through Boxing
Q: How did you cope with the expectations and pressures of televised fights and being in the public eye?
I learned to compartmentalize, focusing on training and preparation, while trying to stay grounded and remember what's important outside the ring—my family, education, and community.
S7 Ep3: DON BROADHURST: Commonwealth Gold, Losing My Mum & Changing Young Lives Through Boxing
Q: What was the turning point that made you decide to pursue boxing at a professional level?
Winning gold at the Commonwealth Games and the opportunities that followed with Frank Warren gave me a platform and a belief that I could succeed at the professional level.
S5 Ep6: Carla Jade: From Ring Girl to Misfits World Champion
Q: Did you have that fighting instinct when you were younger?
Carla reflects on being a tomboy with an early curiosity about boxing, noting the contrast between her image as a promoter/boxer and the stereotype of a fighter, but acknowledging an ingrained drive to compete.
S5 Ep8: Roger Johnson: From Wycombe to Wembley | Blues’ 2011 Cup Hero Tells His Full Story
Q: What was it like to transition to the Premier League and then experience cup runs?
The guest talks about the adrenaline and pride of breaking into the Premier League, the camaraderie of the squad, and the dramatic cup runs that tested the team's resilience and belief.
