  • Errol is top class

It’s so great to have somebody like Errol Louis in the city to report and dissect the politics and everything else that comes with it. He’s been exceptional over this mayoral election cycle and Inside City Hall is an essential watch. As is this podcast!!

  • Intimate like radio, with a living library all wrapped up into one.

There are few broadcasts where preoccupation with image and dynamic sets take a back seat to adult conversations. Errol Louis leads fascinating conversations, not only because he aims at the root of NY, but because he IS, NY. He knows the history, the characters and their stories. The narrative makes itself. You wanna really (really) know what’s going on in NYC, the world? Don’t just watch the news, hear what the people shaping that news are sharing with Errol Louis.

  • One-Sided Reporting

I just listened to Errol’s interview with Peter Beinart. A good reporter doesn’t let his own personal views get in the way of accurate coverage. Beinart’s view of the Israel Hamas War is very most certainly one-sided. But, Errol has once again failed to interview a second pundit with a contrasting point of view. He openly supported Beinart’s claims instead. This leaves the listener with only one side of the story.

Errol did the same thing when he interviewed Henry Garrido of DC37 about New Yor... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Steve Kornacki breaks down the future of New York politics
Q: What surprised you there?
I was struck by the divergence between early vote advantage and election day updates, where traditional ground-game strength could suddenly shift outcomes, underscoring how important the execution of turnout operations is in close races.
Who won the NY-12 debate?
Q: What were your overall impressions of the debate?
The hosts and Bergin noted that having all five candidates together offered a clearer sense of differences and dynamics, with some contenders standing out due to their experience and messaging, while others showed vulnerabilities in their resumes or planning. There was particular attention to how healthcare, housing, and national issues like impeachment intersect with local concerns in the district.
Mamdani's high-stakes Upper Manhattan bet
Q: What is the broader significance of the DSA and uptown coalition in reshaping New York politics?
The guest argues that the emergence of the Democratic Socialists of America in uptown politics represents a structural shift toward more generational and issue-driven coalition-building, expanding the pool of actors beyond traditional ethnic or neighborhood lines and influencing policy and leadership choices.
Will businesses really leave NYC because of Mamdani?
Q: What does that tell you?
It suggests that corporate relocation is a nuanced choice influenced by tax environments, regulatory climate, and the broader ecosystem, not just headlines about a single policy, and that firms hedge by diversifying while acknowledging NYC's assets.
Fab 5 Freddy: How a kid from Brooklyn changed NYC in the '80s
Q: How did you first get involved with the downtown art and music scenes?
Freddy details growing up in Brooklyn, his early exposure to jazz, graffiti, and film projects, and how he used those experiences to connect street art with mainstream culture, including his role in Wild Style and his meetings with key figures.
