  • Weird take

I generally enjoy this show but the latest episode (the one from their new studio) was off. They were covering the flamingo protests in Albania but it felt like somehow they made the joke Albania when it’s really just classic crony corruption and American exceptionalism

Please don’t sully this wonderful podcast with any more Brad Lander interviews. A voice as irritating as the man.

  • I’m a subscriber, but…

What started as a fresh and insouciant take on NY politics has become unlistenable. On your 1/23/26 (?) show with Michael Lange, your guest repeatedly referred to the Canadian PM as “Jay Carney.” His name is “Mark Carney,” possibly confusing the former central banker with current Fed head Jay Powell. Also, in your discussion of Josh Graham’s documentary, you skipped over the problem of witnesses and victims being identified. Finally, you all (and especially Katie) please get some vocal training ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Can Mamdani Arrest Netanyahu? No, and That's Also Not the Point
Q: Can Mayor Mamdani actually arrest Netanyahu?
No, due to head-of-state immunity and separate protection that applies to representatives of UN member states, so the arrest would not be legally feasible.
That’s Beach… Week Live in the Rockaways! feat. Lifeguard Janet Fash
Q: What inspired Janet Fash to write Lifeguard, a Love Story?
Her long career and memories of the Rockaways, along with discussions with colleagues and editors, led to storytelling that blends safety history with personal anecdotes.
We Live in Sportsball City feat. Alex Shephard and Miguel Salazar
Q: What was the impetus behind putting together a magazine from the left about the World Cup?
Alex and Miguel explain they wanted to explore soccer through a political lens while keeping the sport celebratory, presenting essays from writers around the world to reveal how geopolitics, economics, and culture intersect with the World Cup.
The Hell Gate 2026 Judicial Convention
Q: Why is court reporting important to understanding the judiciary?
Court reporters are essential because the lack of audiovisual recording in New York courts means transcripts and written records are the primary way to understand proceedings, but those transcripts can be slow or incomplete, impacting appeals and accountability.
The Hell Gate 2026 Judicial Convention
Q: What is a judicial delegate?
A judicial delegate is someone elected during a primary who then goes to a convention to decide who will be the party nominees for judgeships, meaning they have a direct say in who becomes a judge.
