  • Insightful and funny local podcast

I always look forward to listening, especially Christina’s spicy takes, lol. I like hearing each host’s point of view, even if I don’t always agree with the things they say. I’m convinced they come from a good place and try to keep integrity.

  • Out of touch but well-informed

No honeymoon here for Mamdani, not like the one given to Adams. The hosts seem to have a barely contained contempt for the new mayor, but this is common among political journalists in the city. Hell, it’s common among most political journalists in the country to detest and stigmatize left-wing politicians. I’m not Mamdani’s biggest fan, but their bias is obvious and annoying. I listen 2x speed.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 488: The Readymade Art-Bomb Who Exploded in NYC
Q: How did the Armory Show change the American art scene?
The Armory Show brought Picasso, Matisse, Monet, and Brancusi to New York, overwhelming local Ashcan artists and reshaping perceptions of what could be considered art, ultimately catalyzing a national interest in modernism.
Episode 488: The Readymade Art-Bomb Who Exploded in NYC
Q: Talk to me about Duchamp and chess.
Duchamp viewed chess and art as parallel cognitive processes: both require planning, thought, and precise moves, with art judged subjectively while chess remains objective in its moves, which for him made chess a refuge from the art world's pressures.
Episode 483: Reviving the Missing Link in Queens
Q: What are the next steps to push this forward?
We need continued engagement with the MTA, a completed cost-benefit analysis, a broader political coalition, and securing a planning grant to move from concept to engineering work, while ensuring community designs protect neighborhoods and allow for parks where feasible.
Episode 483: Reviving the Missing Link in Queens
Q: How would the project be funded and what would it cost?
Current thinking places the total around 4 billion dollars in today's dollars, with a mix of federal funds, city funding, and private or nonprofit support, making it feasible to build the line while delivering substantial time savings and housing development.
Episode 483: Reviving the Missing Link in Queens
Q: What exactly is QueensLink and how did you get involved?
QueensLink is a plan to reactivate the Rockaway Beach Branch to run a north-south subway line with park space and bike paths along the right-of-way; I got involved after observing the debates between competing groups and deciding there was a way to pursue both rail and parks together.
