Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 465: Kishkes, Knishes and a Lost New York City
Q: Why did you put the word tourist in your title?
Part of it was a parody of tourist books, but also because many of the places and cultural artifacts discussed exist only in the past, making us all cultural tourists trying to understand and connect with a lost culture.
Episode 465: Kishkes, Knishes and a Lost New York City
Q: What is Klezmer and what does the 1970s Klezmer revival have to do with Klezmer?
Klezmer is traditional East European Yiddish dance music that had really no interest in American Jewish life before the 1970s, especially after WWII. The 1970s Klezmer revival helped reanimating this art form and made it part of cultural expression again.
Episode 466: A Plan To Pay for Parks
Q: What should the new mayor do to improve parks?
The guests unanimously agreed that the new mayor should create a new vision for city parks, emphasizing both funding and appropriate appointments.
Episode 466: A Plan To Pay for Parks
Q: How do you think parks fared under the Adams administration?
Katie expressed disappointment, stating that under Adams, no new waterfront parcels opened, and the promise of funding for parks was not met.
City Hall Free For All: The Mamdani Transition Begins & Patrick Gaspard on Political Power
Q: What do you see as some of the other parallels between Barack Obama and Zohran Mamdani?
Both have the ability to boil down complicated issues and connect with average voters, representing communities that feel neglected.
