  • Strait of Hormuz episode

I was listening to the most recent NPR politics podcast about the straits of Hormuz and felt like many pertinent things out. You talked about how other countries are not stepping up to help open the straits, but they weren’t closed until Trump started this war with no input or effort to include our Allies. Why should they come and fix a problem he created, especially when they keep pointing out that the cruise missiles that Iran has can reach them in Europe. Does getting involved at this point o... more

  • Not clear on your point

Seems like you guys (!) have lost sight of who started this war. Very disappointed with your reporting lately.

  • Not educated about SCOTUS role…

I like the banter to some degree, but it seems like a cnn roundtable with talking heads at times, which is less informative. Also the episode they just released about the Louisiana maps shows they need some even basic SCOTUS schooling.

  • Biased

Most, not all opinions on NPR are left leaning. Tit should be neutral commentary and less biased.

  • An institution I’d die for

Title says most of how I feel about this 4th estate institution.

One question though…how many guts does the VRA have? Are the guts regenerating? I ask because the Supreme Court seems to repeatedly gut it and that’s a bit of an unusual thing to be able to do as gutting is typically fatal.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

How Trump is undermining the fight against public corruption
Q: Can you tell us what you found?
Two main findings emerged: first, a notable number of presidential pardons for former elected officials and their aides, often with political overtones; second, a dramatic reduction in the Public Integrity Section at the DOJ, including a sharp drop in personnel and in ongoing investigations, which experts argue weakens the department's ability to pursue public corruption cases.
Supreme Court deals another blow to Voting Rights Act
Q: Can you walk us through the background of how this case arrived at the Supreme Court and the question being posed to SCOTUS?
The case centers on Louisiana's redrawn map after the 2020 census, which reduced to one majority-black district; plaintiffs argued this violated Section 2. After lower courts required a second majority-black district, the Supreme Court's ruling reinterpreted Section 2's focus on intent rather than effects, reshaping how such challenges can be pursued in court.
Where Swalwell’s exit leaves the California governor’s race
Q: What caused Swalwell to drop out and how does that affect the race?
Allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced, reported by major outlets, prompting Swalwell to withdraw; this removed him as a frontrunner and triggered realignment among candidates and supporters.
Does the president own presidential records?
Q: What could happen next if historians' lawsuit proceeds?
The case could lead to a court ruling that clarifies or reaffirms how records should be handled, potentially constraining executive actions and reinforcing congressional oversight over presidential documentation.
Does the president own presidential records?
Q: Why is the Presidential Records Act considered important for trust in government?
The Act exists to ensure official materials are preserved and accessible, which helps the public verify what happened and hold leaders accountable, restoring trust after past controversies like Watergate and Nixon's era.
