The diction of the narrator sounds like it is artificial intelligence and not human. The content is fairly good. But the diction and the faux breathlessness of the narrator seems artificial and is very distracting.
Mark does an amazing job not only describing the exploits of the warlords but also giving a back story of the time and culture that would have influenced the events surrounding the protagonist. You can tell he puts in a lot of prep work and research for each episode. His delivery is consistent and almost calming, which allows an easy listen then a need to listen to another episode. A must subscribe if you appreciate ancient civilizations and warfare
You’ve got a lot of people covering presidents or popes, but the focus on warlords—many of them completely unknown to most people–sets this podcast apart, and the host’s enthusiasm for researching and sharing these stories truly shows!
Excellent topics and well done research. Unfortunately, the narrator’s style is less than appealing and can border on tedious. The same material delivered by another narrator would be top-notch.
Also, during interview segments, the narrator speaks far too often and should allow more time for the guest speaker.
This is the deep-dive history deserves. Well researched, insightfull and very well told.
