  • Too many ads

I’ll only listen when I have free hands to skip ads. It’s counterproductive. The amount of ads makes me skip them, so can’t say I support the sponsors. Less ads = less skipping forward.

  • Good value

Interesting to see reviews complaining about too many adverts. Subscription is £17.99/year! So 5p/day! No ads!

  • More ads than content

Seriously - the ads are out of control and an absolutely take over the content. I had to stop listening.

  • Would be great if it wasn’t half ads

Unreasonable number of ads. You’ll hear the same ad multiple times in the same ad break. It’s great history content but the ads are just too annoying to listen to daily.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Saturday Matinee: What We Did Before
Q: In fact, your paper is titled The Unburied Dead. Can you tell me about the research that you've been doing?
The research centers on the Bronze Age in the Central European Carpathian Basin, focusing on mortuary practices across a wide landscape. We're uncovering numerous sites with unusual burial treatments, using new methods like histotephonomy and CT scans to infer whether bones were exposed, moved, or deliberately altered after death, which points to complex ritual behavior beyond straightforward burials.
Saturday Matinee: European Christmas Markets Tour!
Q: Will, what is the European Christmas market? What's going on here?
Will explains the tour as a 10-day journey through historically rich cities in France, Germany, and Austria, focusing on Christmas markets and accompanying historical sites with opportunities to meet local historians.
Saturday Matinee: History For The Reckoning
Q: What role did Wayne Collins play in your eventual release or redress?
Wayne Collins, an ACLU attorney, fought to prevent forced removal to Japan, helped many on the list avoid shipboard deportation, and became a pivotal ally in securing protection and eventual redress.
Saturday Matinee: History For The Reckoning
Q: What was your family's experience on December 7th, 1941, and how did it unfold for you as a child?
The family was abruptly ordered to prepare and evacuate from their home, taken from their Los Angeles neighborhood to camps, and separated from their belongings, experiences that left an enduring memory of fear and disruption.
Saturday Matinee: Daniel and Kelly’s Extraordinary Universe
Q: Is that true? Seems like a cool episode idea. History of anesthesia, back when getting someone really drunk was the best we could do?
There's a whole lot of important stuff that we don't fully understand.
