  • Activism in your art

Hi Ezra, I wanted to leave this review specifically in response to the episode with Dottie Lux. As a fan of your music and someone who walks in those same very white liberal festival and show scenes as you. The speaking up is scene and valued and appreciated by some of us, and hopefully more all the time! Also, I’ve really enjoyed listening to you in this capacity and thank you for using your voice this way.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Medicine Under Siege: Dr. Musallam Abukhalil on Gaza’s Silent Emergency
Q: What can outsiders do to meaningfully help Gaza right now?
Support local communities and their initiatives, advocate for open borders and access to essential medicines, and use media platforms to amplify Gaza voices rather than treating aid as a one-off intervention.
Medicine Under Siege: Dr. Musallam Abukhalil on Gaza’s Silent Emergency
Q: What is the core principle behind United For Dignity Alliance?
The core principle is that people affected by conflict should lead their own recovery and development; interventions are designed with local Palestinians first, supported by international partners, to ensure genuine agency and relevance.
Medicine Under Siege: Dr. Musallam Abukhalil on Gaza’s Silent Emergency
Q: When did you first get into medicine and what changed during the war?
I started on a path toward internal medicine, but the war forced me to pivot to frontline care inside shelters, dealing with every day pressures like access to diapers, hygiene supplies, and urgently needed medications, which shifted my focus to the broader health system and humanitarian needs.
Resisting Erasure: Tarik Kazaleh on Diaspora Grief, Revolutionary Music and Generational Change
Q: Watani 77 sounds like a long, deliberate project. What was the concept behind the 77-minute improvisation?
The idea started as a gallery piece but evolved into a produced improv album, meant to reflect 77 years of occupation and Palestinian history through sound, blending traditional instruments with modern improvisation to create a cohesive artistic meditation.
Resisting Erasure: Tarik Kazaleh on Diaspora Grief, Revolutionary Music and Generational Change
Q: Can you tell us about the Arab Summit and how it shaped your path as an artist and activist?
Arab Summit emerged at the height of the Second Intifada, bringing together Arab-identified artists to push real hip-hop and political dialogue. It connected a network of like-minded musicians and activists, moved by a sense of shared history and a desire to present authentic voices rather than stereotyped images.
