  • Thought-provoking and inspiring!

I love your podcast, Prentis. The latest episode on traitors to patriarchy is everything. Thank you for challenging us to rethink what’s acceptable (i.e. “good guys”) vs. what we really need: men being traitors to the patriarchy the same way white folks must be traitors to white supremacist delusion.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

[Revisit] Grief is the Medicine with Malkia Devich Cyril
Q: What practical steps can individuals and movements take to move from unattended grief to something seen, felt, and acted upon?
Start with acknowledgement of loss, move to embodiment, then enfranchisement; build communities that support accompanied and relational grief, integrate ritual and care into organizing, and treat grief as a leadership practice that informs strategy and action.
[Revisit] Grief is the Medicine with Malkia Devich Cyril
Q: Can you define grief beyond the traditional personal definition and explain why it's relevant to social justice work?
Grief is an evolutionary response to loss that occurs within systems of oppression; it is not just an individual feeling but a collective process that, when recognized and embedded in practice, can fuel care, solidarity, and transformative action within movements.
Holistic Prosperity with Aisha Nyandoro
Q: Why is Magnolia Mother's Trust explicitly targeted to Black mothers, and how has that focus shaped the program?
Focusing on Black mothers in poverty in Mississippi is essential because they are among the most economically vulnerable due to wages, housing, and caregiving burdens; the explicit focus validates who has been most harmed by systemic inequities and ensures the program addresses those specific needs.
Holistic Prosperity with Aisha Nyandoro
Q: When did you first realize guaranteed income could be realized in Jackson, Mississippi, and what challenges did you face?
The idea emerged from listening to the needs of the mothers we serve and recognizing that cash could be a profound, liberating tool; the challenges included skepticism from funders, structural racism, and the difficulty of raising funds for a program led by Black women in the South.
Care is a Lifeforce with Ai-jen Poo
Q: What are three steps we can take?
Prioritize making child care, aging, and disability care affordable and accessible, invest in home- and community-based care, and raise wages for care workers to elevate them into good jobs.
