  • Thought-provoking and inspiring!

I love your podcast, Prentis. The latest episode on traitors to patriarchy is everything. Thank you for challenging us to rethink what’s acceptable (i.e. “good guys”) vs. what we really need: men being traitors to the patriarchy the same way white folks must be traitors to white supremacist delusion.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

[Revisit] Conjuring Worlds with Maurice Mitchell
Q: What do you see as the core problem with neoliberal storytelling and how can the left respond with a more compelling narrative?
He argues that the left suffers from weaker ideological grounding and a tendency to focus on tactical responses rather than a cohesive, strategic vision. The fix is to invest in ideological work, develop a unified strategy, and narrate a compelling story of a connected, inclusive future that transcends binary divides.
[Revisit] Conjuring Worlds with Maurice Mitchell
Q: Can you tell me a bit about your upbringing and how it gets you to where you are in this moment?
Maurice shares his multigenerational migration story from Trinidad and Tobago to the United States, emphasizing family perseverance, community support, and the influence of racism and class in shaping his sense of justice. He connects those experiences to his commitment to movement-building and the ethos of solidarity.
[Revisit] Embodying Existence with Kai Cheng Thom
Q: You've spoken about safety in transformative justice; how do you conceptualize safety beyond conventional frameworks?
Kai argues that safety is often weaponized to exclude or punish, and promotes TJ as a framework that centers listening, safety, and healing for all involved, including survivors and those who caused harm, with attention to power dynamics and community accountability.
[Revisit] Embodying Existence with Kai Cheng Thom
Q: Can you tell us a little bit about your upbringing and something about it that situates you here in this moment?
Kai shares growing up on unceded Musqueam, Slawatuth, and Salish territories in Vancouver in a working-class family with intergenerational trauma, noting contrasts between material privilege and poverty, which shaped her sensitivity to social dynamics and identity.
[Revisit] Grief is the Medicine with Malkia Devich Cyril
Q: What practical steps can individuals and movements take to move from unattended grief to something seen, felt, and acted upon?
Start with acknowledgement of loss, move to embodiment, then enfranchisement; build communities that support accompanied and relational grief, integrate ritual and care into organizing, and treat grief as a leadership practice that informs strategy and action.
