Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#291 Ricardo Miller
Q: Welcome to ROL Radio. Can you describe your early introduction to jiu-jitsu and what drew you to the discipline?
Ricardo describes being introduced to jiu-jitsu as a kid in Brazil, seeing it as a therapeutic and life-changing practice that offered more than just fighting; it helped him connect with people, stay fit, and eventually become a teacher who could influence lives positively.
#290 Nathan Fitch
Q: What was the turning point that convinced you to pursue training in Thailand, and how did you act on it?
The turning point was recognizing that staying in one place wouldn't satisfy my hunger for growth. I decided to go to Thailand, sold my possessions, quit a stable path, and booked the trip with a clear goal of immersing myself in Muay Thai, even if it meant starting from almost nothing.
#290 Nathan Fitch
Q: How did your early experiences with different martial arts shape your path?
Early on I explored Aikido, Taekwondo, and Judo, using each as a stepping stone to understand what worked for me and how I learned best. The real shift came when I embraced more physical testing in Judo and Muay Thai, which clarified that I needed to train across disciplines and be open to new approaches rather than clinging to one path.
#286 Andy Lazarit
Q: What sparked the initial interest in Muay Thai for you?
Seeing the first UFC and the stand-up aspects attracted me; a flyer later reinforced the decision to start training, driven by curiosity and the idea of changing my life.
#284 Rafael Lang
Q: What is the biggest life lesson Jiu Jitsu taught you?
The ability to reset after setbacks, try again, and keep moving forward, using adversity as motivation to reinvent yourself and improve.
