  • Good podcast for NPs starting in DPC

So much of the content in the DPC space is targeted towards doctors. This podcast is very helpful because they interview Nurse Practitioners who detail what they do to build a successful practice. My wife is launching her own practice and we have learned a lot from the show

Q: Phase two is the legal and business setup. How do I choose the right business entity?
The choice depends on liability protection and tax treatment. Most DPCs are LLCs or PLLCs, with an S-Corp election often appropriate once income reaches a certain level. Engage a CPA early and plan for a CPA and bookkeeper prior to opening.

Q: Phase one is foundation. How do I bridge the income gap while my practice is ramping up?
Dan emphasizes planning ahead, budgeting for a 12-24 month ramp, and creating a financial buffer (e.g., 15k savings). He suggests considering per diem work or a working spouse to bridge income, and emphasizes that cash flow is critical to prevent burnout and survival in the early days.
