Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 111: Sheila Mikhail: When the System Fails Women
Q: What changes would you most like to see in the next few years?
I want universal access to supplemental screening for every woman with dense tissue, removal of loopholes that let insurance reclassify screening as diagnostic, and stronger enforcement with penalties for insurers who block care; I also want doctors to be educated on dense breasts so patients aren't shuffled aside.
Ep. 108: Intimacy After Cancer: Sex, Libido & Relationships in Survivorship w/Claire Rumore (Part 2)
Q: What's the first piece of advice you can give someone who doesn't know where to start when navigating intimacy after cancer?
Name what's here emotionally to break the ice, acknowledge awkwardness or insecurity, and express what is missed or desired, then gradually open up the conversation with a trusted partner or caregiver.
Episode 114: Transforming Breast Imaging with Dr. Margaret Bredehoft
Q: How does dedicated breast CT differ from traditional mammography, especially for those with dense tissue or implants?
It provides a full 360-degree, non-compressive view that reduces tissue overlap, enables assessment around implants, and minimizes recall anxiety, addressing key barriers to regular screening.
Episode 114: Transforming Breast Imaging with Dr. Margaret Bredehoft
Q: Could you tell us a little about your background and what led you to focus on improving breast imaging?
Dr. B describes a career rooted in public health and innovation, aiming to expand access and improve patient experience and outcomes, which led her to champion dedicated breast CT and mobile imaging solutions.
Ep. 118: The “And Then” of Cancer: Jake Messier on Stage 4 Male Breast Cancer (Pt. 2)
Q: What were your treatments like?
Jake details chemo, mastectomies, radiation, and endocrine therapy, noting that even after remission, disease can recur and require ongoing management.
