  • Wolf in sheep dog’s clothing

This podcast is another attempt by Rio Tinto and other mining and fossil fuel companies to greenwash themselves, distract attention from their own activities and try to convince people that we can invent our way out of climate change while continuing to dig out and burn fossil fuels. Don’t be fooled.

  • Literally run by a mining company

That Rio Tinto label? Yeah they’re one of Australia’s worst contributors to climate change. As such the discussions are insincere and lukewarm at best.

Turbocharging trees
Q: Are you able to quantify the benefits that your product gives compared to a tree next door that doesn't get one of your pellets?
We can drop back to around 3% mortality rate and expect growth rate improvements of about 20% in the first 10 years.
Season Finale
Q: Are these tweaks that we're seeing many people make a sign that initial pledges at the start of this decade were unrealistic?
The pledges were aspirational but lacked the necessary detail and understanding of what was required to drive change towards decarbonisation.
Season Finale
Q: How has war in Ukraine and the blacklisting of Russian commodities affected Shell's thinking about oil and gas extraction?
The war has highlighted the ongoing need for oil and gas, though it may be in reduced form, making the transition harder due to geopolitical tensions.
From kitchens to factories: How microwaves are redefining manufacturing
Q: And would you say that this technology is now technically proven, but just perhaps not yet commercially proven?
The underpinning science is done and proven, but reliability in a commercial setting is still a challenge.
From kitchens to factories: How microwaves are redefining manufacturing
Q: So was this like an agreed meeting where you guys had put something in each other's diary?
It was a chance meeting that led to discussions about using microwaves in the steelmaking process.
