  • A breath of fresh air

Finally a good host after so much chopping and changing. Is informative, interviews well, and knows finance, wish it was longer.

  • Chris

Generally like it sharp and informative. A couple of improvements would be more content detail in the podcast episode description because most people don’t have time to listen to podcasts that don’t detail the content and the ads are way too frequent.

  • Refreshing

I’ve been a long time listener over the years and enjoyed the show immensely, right up ‘until’ the gambling ads started unfortunately.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Economist calls out government spending after rate hike ⬆️💰
Q: Did the RBA make the right call today, given it was inevitable they'd have to do it either this month or wait until May?
Yes, the guest argues the move was necessary to address inflation dynamics and lacked flexibility to wait, though there is concern about the global shock and the timing.
Aussie electric vehicle company goes under 🚘⚡
Q: Should consumers rush to buy a car now or wait?
Buy now if you have the funds and the stock you want; waiting could mean losing end-of-financial-year savings and potential price changes.
Money News with James Willis 💵📊📻 - Wednesday, 18th March
Q: What should we be expecting in the budget, particularly around reforms to the capital gains tax discount and other intergenerational equity measures?
The capital gains tax discount is likely to be reduced, potentially to around 30%, with questions about grandfathering or transitional rules; broader reform discussions include how to fund income tax relief and possible broader changes to trusts, negative gearing, and other assets, though early revenue impact may be limited.
Money News with James Willis 💵📊📻 - Wednesday, 18th March
Q: I just be keen firstly for you to give us a bit of a summary on where the Australian economy is sitting at the moment based on everything you've heard from the Reserve Bank and the fact that the RBA voted five votes to four to hike rates, fearing inflation was approaching the high fours and in a bid to avoid the R word a recession.
The economy continues to face an inflation problem driven by domestic pressures even before the Middle East conflict, with inflation near 4% and risks mounting from energy costs; the central bank hike reflects those ongoing domestic pressures, and the policy response is being weighed against the need to maintain inflation trajectories while monitoring global shocks.
Money News with James Willis 💵📊📻 - Tuesday, 17th March
Q: What are the best and worst outcomes from here this year for the Australian economy and interest rates?
The guest suggests another rate hike is likely given inflation dynamics and Middle East uncertainty, but notes potential pauses if oil prices stabilise and data improve.
