  • Unprofessional

Luke is so arrogant and unprofessional. What’s with the swearing? Where does he think he is? Otherwise, I like the show, but Luke needs to lift his game. He might be good at his job, but I would find it difficult to trust someone with his

arrogance. He might come a cropper one day.

  • Amazon

Very disappointing that this podcast influencer promotes Amazon as his number one business he uses. Amazon doesn’t pay their workers properly , is killing the environment, killing small businesses but who cares he states it’s a great business! No ethics on this program it’s just making money and does not care about businesses and services that exploit others or is killing the environment.

Another person of privilege making money .

Owen bought a Tesla, and said it out loud. Are you tone deaf? Do not support the oligarch fascist, who represents a huge risk to the world economy and all our investments. It will not just ‘be ok’. You can’t afford to blithely ignore the biggest headwinds.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Mark Ambrose on deep value investing, airplane leases and asymmetric returns
Q: How did you approach valuing the A380s given limited data and the unique risks?
We used a mix of bespoke appraisals and open-source data, considering contract stipulations like the $17 million return obligation per aircraft and conservative scrap value estimates, to form a probabilistic range of outcomes and understand what the downside would look like under different scenarios.
Mark Ambrose on deep value investing, airplane leases and asymmetric returns
Q: What was the attractiveness of the 26p AA4/aircraft leasing opportunity beyond price?
The cash on the balance sheet, about 20p, plus the ability to redeem shares and continue collecting lease income created a setup where downside protection was built into the structure while the potential upside remained substantial if the aircraft values recovered or if there was meaningful value in the remaining leases.
Mark Ambrose on deep value investing, airplane leases and asymmetric returns
Q: So Mark, tell me, what makes a good investment to you?
The fundamentals are twofold: it must be asymmetric with limited downside and meaningful upside, and you should have a real edge over the seller, not relying on cleverness alone but a defensible reason for why the investment is mispriced compared to its peers.
Budget backlash? Temple & Webster, Brambles and your investing questions
Q: With the proposed 30% minimum capital gains tax on selling ETFs in retirement, is it better to sell before retirement to pay at a lower rate?
The hosts explain that the capital gains tax rate is a floor and that moving into a higher tax bracket in retirement isn't often advantageous; in many cases you'd still pay more tax by realizing gains earlier or later depending on your overall tax situation, and planning with a spreadsheet is advised.
Is Australia doomed? Plus, CSL is close to a buy
Q: How should Australians think about franking credits in a world with increasing global diversification?
Global diversification is important, but franking credits remain a key consideration for after-tax income; for some investors, dividends with franking credits may be prioritized over growth through reinvestment depending on tax position.
