  • Sycophant

In general I’ve enjoyed the pod over the years. Solid general financial information and interesting investment concepts.

The latest episode with Andrew Bragg was just disappointing. It was totally politically motivated and one could even say partisan propagandist.

It was like listening to a giddy school child interview their idol.

Totally contrary to the way it was set up in the introduction.

I listen for factual general investment information, and this pod was genuinely anything but tha... more

The episode you referenced at the beginning of every episode I no longer there I am using Apple Podcasts on the number of episodes is always 399. It seems every time you post a new episode the oldest one disappears. It would be nice if the settings were changed to access the old episode. I don’t know whether you’re aware of this.

  • Great show, poor editing

I love this show, I’ve learned so much from listening and will definitely miss Kate.

My one gripe is the editing, which is similar with some of the other Rask podcasts. I skip the first two minutes because the preamble is so long, and occasionally the editing has been a bit random, with little bits that they talk about editing out, being left in. Today I was listening to one of the latest episodes and was totally gripped when the last 15 minutes became a garbled edited chat repeating certain bit... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Senator Andrew Bragg on housing, tax and Australia’s productivity problem
Q: How would you react to the argument that capital should be taxed more to fix housing?
Bragg contends that focusing on supply is the main issue; taxes on wealth are not the solution, and he emphasizes reducing waste and encouraging private ownership and enterprise.
Senator Andrew Bragg on housing, tax and Australia’s productivity problem
Q: What would you change? What would you do? You've got all these papers here from the budget. What would you tweak?
Bragg argues for cutting housing taxes, indexing personal income tax scales to inflation to return money to taxpayers, reducing the National Construction Code, linking migration and housing, and funding essential infrastructure to reduce costs for builders.
Christian Hull’s Hot-Mess Money Makeover: Where to Start
Q: When did you realize you could actually leave your job and go full-time with your own projects?
After building a following and monetizing content through a combination of sponsorships and independent work, the guest reached a point where the income from personal projects surpassed traditional employment enough to leave radio and pursue a self-directed path.
Super vs property vs ETFs: What should you focus on?
Q: If someone in their 20s asks whether to focus on super, home savings, or ETFs, what should be the priority and why?
For someone in their 20s, prioritize building a solid base with education on super while pursuing higher-earning opportunities and commitments to other goals like housing and ETFs; the idea is to balance learning and contributing to super with practical steps to increase income and fund other goals, and consider the order of operations to optimize long-term growth.
Super vs property vs ETFs: What should you focus on?
Q: What general principles should we be thinking about in terms of how much to invest inside versus outside super for constitutionally protected funds, especially as retirement ages approach?
Assess the state-specific rules and caps for constitutionally protected funds; evaluate the tax treatment at withdrawal versus during accumulation, and consider diversification so that income needs in retirement are funded both inside and outside super, with professional advice to map the exact thresholds.
