  • Great podcast

Love the podcast! However just a bit of feedback the number of references to Gemma’s book is getting a bit grating. Love you guys.

  • Great show, poor editing

I love this show, I’ve learned so much from listening and will definitely miss Kate.

My one gripe is the editing, which is similar with some of the other Rask podcasts. I skip the first two minutes because the preamble is so long, and occasionally the editing has been a bit random, with little bits that they talk about editing out, being left in. Today I was listening to one of the latest episodes and was totally gripped when the last 15 minutes became a garbled edited chat repeating certain bit... more

  • Superannuation…it needs more love and accuracy

I’ve been listening to this podcast for over a year now and find the financial information generally helpful. However, the exception, and it’s a big one, is the superannuation content of this podcast. The hosts, Owen and Kate, have at least two episodes dedicated to this topic, and by estimation, it’s time to bring in a third party expert to clear up the inaccuracies that both hosts have provided. For example, both hosts have failed to emphasise the crystal clear early retirement benefits of sup... more

  • University savings hacks by Kate

Kate Campbell on this podcast is very basic and very cheap, I’d hate to be on a date with her as it’d be dry biscuits and a packet of dates for both of you.

I’d recommend she have her own podcast living in poverty instead.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Financially preparing for kids: cash flow, leave, childcare and insurance explained
Q: Why is life insurance and income protection important for new parents?
Because losing a parent would create not only emotional but also financial strain; having cover early ensures mortgage debt and living expenses can be met while the surviving partner continues to care for the child.
Financially preparing for kids: cash flow, leave, childcare and insurance explained
Q: How should a couple think about leave sequencing and who takes which portion?
Model different scenarios, consider joint cash flow, and use a mix of paid leave, government benefits, and possibly flexible work arrangements to maximize overall income stability across the first 12–24 months.
Financially preparing for kids: cash flow, leave, childcare and insurance explained
Q: What does it look like to be financially prepared for a new baby?
It starts with knowing your numbers, understanding both employer and government entitlements, and building a buffer that can cover the drop in income during that first year, while planning for childcare and ongoing living costs.
Super at retirement, pension timing and health costs – Q&A
Q: Burrow asks about exhausting non-super savings before converting accumulation to an allocated pension; should they use up non-super first?
General advice is to let super do the hard work as long as possible and convert to a pension when you can to access tax benefits, but if you have other assets outside super, you can rely on those to meet shortfalls; a mix approach is common rather than all-or-nothing.
Hedged vs unhedged ETFs, ETF size, super duplication & kids investing: Weekly Q&A
Q: What's the difference between a hedged and an unhedged international ETF and does it matter long term?
Hedging removes currency fluctuation risk, which can impact returns in the short term. Over very long horizons, the difference tends to shrink because hedging adds cost. If you're investing for 10+ years, unhedged can perform similarly or better after costs, but for shorter terms or if you expect currency movement to hurt you, hedging can reduce volatility.
