  • Valuable Insights, but in need of a more balanced perspective

I’m an enthusiastic follower of the entire Rask series and a regular listener to the Property podcast. However, after listening to several episodes consecutively, I’ve found the frequent references to immigration and overseas students—often framed from a distinctly right-leaning perspective—distracting and repetitive.

The discussion on Australia’s rental crisis was a noticeable example: Pete suggested that students turned away by the U.S. and welcomed by Australia would be unlikely to attract H... more

  • Please cut down the political talk

I knew and respect Chris and Amy from other podcasts and was looking forward to a property resource targeting a younger audience, but unfortunate this isn’t it. I’ve listened gern the start, but lately Pete’s rambling with Macrobusiness right wing propaganda and fear mongering about “Asian immigrants” has gotten too alienating.

  • Return housing to homes!

Spruiking property as a wealth-creation scheme has to end. We need to blow up the property market and impose policy that makes it unattractive as an investment wealth-creation scheme! Housing should be within the reach of every Australian worker again. Prices have blown out since the 90’s due to property hoarding by speculators. This country’s biggest shame! People who own more than one house should be heavily taxed.

  • Non-Insightful Content

This pod has quite a low standard of insights related to its content.

Really basic stuff, best suited to anyone who has absolutely no knowledge on any form of investment.

That is fine but the key problem is they just repeat the same basic stuff, “talk to a broker…”. It gets a bit boring and repetitive, no real value or even entertainment delivered.

Came here because I enjoyed hearing Pete on other pods like DFA but was really underwhelmed with this pod.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

What tax reforms mean for the housing market
Q: Should investors worry about negative gearing and CGT reforms, and where will the market go if limits are imposed on deductions?
The expectation is that changes may occur, possibly with partial grandfathering or restrictions on new properties; investors may pivot to strategies focused on owner-occupier markets or alternative structures, but the exact impact will hinge on policy details and timing.
What tax reforms mean for the housing market
Q: Is it worth fixing part of your loan now, given today's rates and potential rate movements?
Fixing in small portions can be considered if you're highly concerned about repayments, but be mindful of rate lock fees, timing between rate offers and settlement, and the possibility of rates moving down after you lock in.
What tax reforms mean for the housing market
Q: With higher rates biting my borrowing capacity, how much more pain is coming for mortgage holders and when might cuts arrive?
The panel suggests evaluating your current mortgage, considering extending the loan term to offset rate increases, and shopping for better valuations and equity release options; fixed-rate decisions depend on your current terms and risk tolerance, with a note that fixed rates can lock in higher costs if rates move differently in the near term.
Fuel prices are surging and Australia's property market is entering a harder phase
Q: Will there be a property price crash?
Historical data suggests that while prices have fluctuations, a broad crash is unlikely; the more likely outcome is continued volatility with selective declines in certain segments, especially premium and high-leverage markets, while entry-level properties may hold or slowly rise.
Oil shock swings markets but Aussie property supply still tight
Q: If I sell a home I've owned since 1992 that I later moved into in 2022, how is CGT calculated and can I use the six-year rule?
CGT is calculated over the entire ownership period with adjustments for eligible costs; the six-year rule may apply only if you used the property as a primary residence during that time, but if you never lived in it, the rule may not apply, so consult a tax accountant for precise calculation.
