  • Valuable Insights, but in need of a more balanced perspective

I’m an enthusiastic follower of the entire Rask series and a regular listener to the Property podcast. However, after listening to several episodes consecutively, I’ve found the frequent references to immigration and overseas students—often framed from a distinctly right-leaning perspective—distracting and repetitive.

The discussion on Australia’s rental crisis was a noticeable example: Pete suggested that students turned away by the U.S. and welcomed by Australia would be unlikely to attract H... more

  • Please cut down the political talk

I knew and respect Chris and Amy from other podcasts and was looking forward to a property resource targeting a younger audience, but unfortunate this isn’t it. I’ve listened gern the start, but lately Pete’s rambling with Macrobusiness right wing propaganda and fear mongering about “Asian immigrants” has gotten too alienating.

  • Return housing to homes!

Spruiking property as a wealth-creation scheme has to end. We need to blow up the property market and impose policy that makes it unattractive as an investment wealth-creation scheme! Housing should be within the reach of every Australian worker again. Prices have blown out since the 90’s due to property hoarding by speculators. This country’s biggest shame! People who own more than one house should be heavily taxed.

  • Non-Insightful Content

This pod has quite a low standard of insights related to its content.

Really basic stuff, best suited to anyone who has absolutely no knowledge on any form of investment.

That is fine but the key problem is they just repeat the same basic stuff, “talk to a broker…”. It gets a bit boring and repetitive, no real value or even entertainment delivered.

Came here because I enjoyed hearing Pete on other pods like DFA but was really underwhelmed with this pod.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Is peak fear here for property? Negative gearing, SMSF risk and the six-year rule
Q: What should a prospective buyer consider when moving to a new primary residence given the six-year rule and potential CGT changes?
Run scenarios comparing keeping the old property vs selling and buying a new main residence, assess debt serviceability, consider CGT implications with six-year rule, and involve an accountant or mortgage advisor to model outcomes.
The post-Budget property reset — fear, buyers and what happens next
Q: What should international considerations be for Aussies thinking about cross-border moves post-budget?
The guests emphasize seeking cross-border tax and residency advice, understanding how land tax and CGT interact when moving to New Zealand or returning to Australia, and the importance of professional guidance to navigate complex structures.
The post-Budget property reset — fear, buyers and what happens next
Q: How might investors respond to the land tax changes and the push toward new property over existing stock?
Panelists discuss investor hesitation in lower-price points, the appeal of new stock due to depreciation and tax incentives, and concerns about selling conditions for newer properties versus established dwellings; the overarching view is a cautious pivot rather than a wholesale shift.
The post-Budget property reset — fear, buyers and what happens next
Q: Is it time to think about buying commercial property given there's still capital around that needs a home?
The conversation suggests that while there is interest in commercial, yields and location matter a lot; the panel notes that high-yield opportunities exist in certain sub-segments like industrial, but risk and tenancy terms are crucial to evaluate.
Senator Andrew Bragg on housing, tax and Australia’s productivity problem
Q: What would you change in the budget to improve housing supply and productivity?
Bragg advocates for indexing tax scales to inflation to return money to taxpayers, cutting or reworking taxes that distort housing supply, linking migration with housing, reducing regulatory burden (notably cutting the National Construction Code), and funding public infrastructure to reduce costs for builders.
