I began listening before moving to TAS from Melb. This podcast has been great in helping me to get my head around what is happening in the state. It gives a diverse and interesting perspective on all manner of issues and personalities. Well produced, reported, presented and a pleasure to listen to. Now I'm down south for good and can listen daily, though I do catch a podcast of missed episodes.

Tamar Valley winemaker Sam Rush named as Young Gun of Wine finalist
Q: What have you taken from that experience to put into your own wine now?
The key takeaway is that wines must express the fruit, be driven by acidity, and reveal the origin through careful, restrained winemaking. I aim for wine that is true to its site, with a clear sense of place and a potential for aging within a few years depending on the vintage and vineyard inputs.
Tamar Valley winemaker Sam Rush named as Young Gun of Wine finalist
Q: So what is your approach to making wine? What have you tweaked in the time, the decade or so that you've spent in other vignettes around the country?
I focus on making wines that are an expression of the fruit, with a fruit-forward and acid-driven profile, and I also emphasize small-batch, single-vineyard expressions to reflect their origin. This approach balances traditional technique with a micro-production mindset to preserve authenticity and terroir.
Campania winemaker named as a Young Gun of Wine finalist
Q: Now, who dobed you in for the Young Gun of Wine?
Jake explains that Justin Foloso from Cave Wines nominated him, and though he was hesitant at first, he decided to put his name forward and was grateful for the nomination.
Latest Pepper Berry Harvest at North Tasmanian farm
Q: How do you measure or gauge the season's performance?
One picker explains that they weigh every gram and keep three years of data to compare averages, big days, and their worst days, using that data to assess what a great day looks like.
Latest Pepper Berry Harvest at North Tasmanian farm
Q: Is there a technique for harvesting that helps protect the berries?
Yes, you pull toward you without pulling the bud, which allows the berries to come off in tight clumps and makes harvesting faster while preserving berry quality.
