  • John Howard’s toy poodle epiphany

Once again I have hugely enjoyed your conversation with John Howard Richard. I smiled a lot but also found myself shedding a tear at times thinking of my own bizarre childhood. I loved that he shared so openly his sad life’s story. And so admired him for picking himself up and finding love and himself in a little dog. Keep strong John and don’t loose what you’ve worked so hard for. Thank you Richard for all your and Sarah’s interesting topics so well conversed with interesting people and topics.... more

  • Love Coversations!

Always love Richard and have listened to this show for many years.

My only other comment is that I wish he would stop using the term ‘sir’ for many of his male guests.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Iran's position of power in the Strait of Hormuz
Q: What is the main strategic objective behind the US and allied actions in this conflict?
The objectives focus on destroying ballistic missile capability, limiting nuclear ambitions, and reducing the Navy's and proxies' ability to threaten shipping, with diplomacy and coercive strikes as complements to deterrence.
Iran's position of power in the Strait of Hormuz
Q: How did you end up in the Navy and what path did you take?
I joined after regional opportunities were limited; I was offered education funding and a path from naval college to warfare training, eventually becoming a warfare officer and taking roles in anti-submarine warfare and ship operations, including an exchange with the Royal Navy.
Iran's position of power in the Strait of Hormuz
Q: What was going on in the Gulf at the time that meant you had to go there?
The Gulf was experiencing heightened instability with Iranian harassment of ships, the potential for escalation in the Strait of Hormuz, and broader regional conflicts; these conditions demanded real-time naval presence and readiness to defend shipping lanes.
Encore: Is there a cheating gene?
Q: Why do you think forgiveness plays such a central role in healing infidelity within families?
Forgiveness changes the energy from verdict to repair; it allows the truth to come forward in a way that can heal wounds, reframe memory, and let people move forward with different boundaries and understanding.
Encore: Is there a cheating gene?
Q: How did the affair in 2007 begin to shape the direction of your writing and the research you pursued?
It pushed me to examine not just the personal betrayal but the bigger questions of how generations repeat patterns, and how honesty, forgiveness, and narrative can redefine a family's future.
