What I Survived explores the extraordinary true stories of people who survived the unthinkable. Each story takes you back to who these people were before everything changed, then inside the moment their lives were pushed to the edge, shipwrecked at sea for weeks, held captive by terrorists, falling 15,000 feet from a plane after a parachute failure, and other extreme, life-or-death situations.

  • Great new find

I was exited to find a new podcast like this one! Highly recommend.

*Friendly suggestion for sound editors-adjust the guests’ voices for better listening clarity. They occasionally sound muffled.

  • Hard to tell what fact checking this podcast does.

It’s hard to tell what if any fact checking the podcast did on what they claim to be a “true” story. The season with Chad seems to be several hours of someone unmedicated just venting.

  • Fun to listen to.

Please match audio levels from remote guests to the host’s audio. Great stories, though. Guests are muffled, or maybe that is a spy technique.😀

The tiktok Fugitive Part 1

Running from Spies MI5 - P1
Q: How did you first get involved with MI5, and what drew you to the organization?
Annie describes a mix of curiosity, ambition, and a sense of duty, followed by a situation where a letter and a casual remark from a parent nudged her toward the MI5 path, then a rigorous recruitment process.
Running from Spies MI5 - P2
Q: What was the hardest part of living on the run?
The constant surveillance, the erosion of privacy, and the strain on family and personal relationships, compounded by the danger of being caught and facing legal consequences.
Running from Spies MI5 - P2
Q: Why did you choose to go public instead of staying quiet?
Because the issues were systemic and secrecy prevented accountability; by going public they believed they could catalyze reform and spark informed public debate, despite personal costs.
Running from Spies MI5 - P2
Q: Did you genuinely fear for your lives, given the pursuit by security services?
Yes, there were moments when the risk felt real and imminent, especially during periods of forced headlines and close encounters with agents; the fear was balanced by a resolve to expose what they saw as systemic wrongdoing.
