Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 84 - Karthik Yogeshwar - Meta
Q: What role do AI and technology play in modern SWP, and what are you most excited about?
AI is a major equalizer and enabler that enables a hybrid model of work, combining human decision-making with AI systems; this enables real-time predictive analytics and reduces entry barriers for non-technical teams, accelerating strategic decision-making across the organization.
Episode 84 - Karthik Yogeshwar - Meta
Q: What makes workforce planning challenging beyond forecasting, and what fundamentals underpin robust planning?
The biggest challenges lie in aligning with a broad set of stakeholders and keeping plans adaptable as the business changes; the four fundamentals are strong visibility into demand, a nimble supply base, cross-functional governance, and a deep understanding of the business to anticipate second- and third-order effects.
Episode 84 - Karthik Yogeshwar - Meta
Q: How did you find getting exposure to the people/data side of things in your first role, and how did you sharpen the learning curve?
Exposure came through hands-on work in workforce strategy and data analytics at Credit Suisse, where I learned the nuts and bolts of workforce planning, including demand versus supply, site strategy, attrition management, and governance, which taught me that you must balance business understanding with curiosity to identify the main problem before applying analytics.
Episode 82 - Tyler Blackwell - Morningstar
Q: What is the one thing you love most about the work you do in strategic workforce planning?
He loves building genuine relationships, helping others think through business problems, and making data meaningful to leadership so decisions can be made with clarity and purpose.
Episode 82 - Tyler Blackwell - Morningstar
Q: What would you say underpins successful strategic workforce planning? Where do you focus and see the most value?
Tyler highlights trust, cross-functional collaboration, data storytelling, and the ability to convert complex data into a compelling narrative that informs decisions, while acknowledging the need to adapt with geopolitical and market considerations.
