Story Girl: The Life of Lucy Maud Montgomery is a 7-part narrative series about the beloved author of Anne of Green Gables.
Lucy Maud Montgomery once wrote that biography is a “screaming farce,” adding that the best biographies give only a two-dimensional portrait of its subject, while everyone has a half-dozen “different sides.” Aware of this fool’s errand, we're leaning in, and examining the di... more

This is such a beautiful, compassionate telling. Thank you. I so appreciate that the reality and lived experience with mental illness is addressed. I have always loved all of L.M. Montgomery and knowing her more, through this podcast is a treat. My heart is sad that she didn’t get the support she needed, but I agree that her books have helped me, through the years, with my mental health. I’m just grateful for her storytelling. Our world is better because of her.
I love the history of the author, Lucy and her writing beyond that I think this podcast went in direction that I wasn't expecting
While the podcast does a great job expanding our understanding of LMM’s inner life and her history it’s unfortunate that they aren’t better able to discuss her foibles the same way they discuss her excellence. We all adore LMM but simply calling her extreme homophobia & anti Indigenous actions normal is to disregard the people who have always fought against reactionary politics. You can feel the genuine care and compassion that everyone involved in the podcast has in covering Montgomery’s mental health - nuanced and beautiful. The story telling is also great but my first comment is what sets this series apart.
I saw the movie Anne of Green Gables and liked it enough to read all of the books in the series. Now I stumbled upon this podcast and enjoy it very much. Learning about the author makes me appreciate the books even more.
