  • Why listening to just one tri podcast works

I’ve been thinking about why I keep listening to Simon Ward’s podcasts

Ages ago I tried loads of tri, fitness and athletic podcasts and sites. It was all too confusing. So I picked one that sounded committed, experienced and relevant. And had the added bonus of a Yorkshire accent.

I don’t have the budget for a coach, but regularly hearing just one voice gives me clarity. I use Simon Ward’s advice to help structure my training plans. It also helps avoid getting distracted by new fads or ideas o... more

  • More than a Cycling/Triathlon podcast

I’ve been listening to Simon’s podcasts for around 8 years now. I’m a cyclist, competitive despite being mid 50’s, and always looking for ways to be fitter and better. Simon goes beyond just training, talks through the area that impacts your whole life rather than just on the bike. Makes you think about many aspects of life, and I’ve taken many of the suggestions and applied them into day to day life as well as training. There’s a recognition that life gets in the way at times so it’s reali... more

  • Excellent information

Thank you Simon. This podcast with Jules regarding protein was most important and you and Jules have broken it down into such understandable and actionable processes. I am a 77 year old masters athlete but I am also the care giver for my 81 year old partner. This helped me and I look forward to part 2.

Why Mobility Matters More Than You Think with Tom Morrison
Q: How can listeners start implementing mobility into a busy schedule?
Start with short, daily sessions (5 minutes) focused on joint movements, progressive loading, and habit stacking; use reminders like immediately after waking or during routine tasks, and gradually expand to larger routines as consistency builds.
Why Mobility Matters More Than You Think with Tom Morrison
Q: What sparked Tom Morrison to focus on mobility, and how did his personal journey shape SMM?
Tom describes a years-long struggle with recurring injuries that finally led him to dig into mobility as a preventative, lifelong practice; through experimenting with foam rolling, bands, and gymnastics-inspired movements, he rebuilt his mobility, recovered from serious back injuries, and created the Simplistic Mobility Method to teach others to move well and stay injury-free.
Heat Training: The Early-Season Edge
Q: For somebody who is going to be competing somewhere hot, is there a particular travel protocol that you suggest?
If you have ample time and budget, three weeks in advance with a dedicated heat block is ideal; otherwise, a shorter pre-event acclimation plus periodic heat sessions throughout the year can still build tolerance and help with re-acclimation when you arrive.
The Day My Heart Stopped Mid-Race with Nick Parkes (English Masters Open Water Champion 2022)
Q: What are your key messages for listeners, especially those over 45?
First one, I'd like people to go and get checked. Second, learn how to do CPR and how to use a defib. Third, focus on your diet and health as you age.
The Day My Heart Stopped Mid-Race with Nick Parkes (English Masters Open Water Champion 2022)
Q: What was your identity as a swimmer and how has it changed since your heart attack?
Yes, it did, Simon. I lost my identity as the elite athlete, but I thought, right, okay, let's roll with this. It's not going to stop my life.
