  • Best S&C Coach Out There

Genuinely can’t name a single person who’s had a bigger influence on me as a strength coach & trainer. The knowledge, experience and perspective he brings to fields like program design, nutrition, general and specific training tactics cannot be understated. Grab a disco ball, throw Tom Platz YouTube clips on the tv and blast this podcast while you crush an Arm Farm and watch as both your brain and muscles swell.

  • Best Pod Out There

This podcast offers a unique blend of being entertaining while also being super informative. It’s like in undergrad when you have your favorite professor teaching your favorite subject, even though it’s 9 am on a Friday and you were out at the bars the night before, you show up. Not by discipline or being motivated because you played the same video of David Goggins doing pull ups and belittling you for the 6th time, but by pure choice and excitement of hearing what Tim has to say about relevant ... more

  • The best available info, digestible.

Tim is one of the smartest people in his field, period. Have worked with him in some capacity for the last 13 or so years, and the guy is always learning, reading and applying.

The knowledge he shares on the podcast is worth its weight in gold. If you are into health, and performance, backed by data rather than feelings; jam that subscribe button!

  • No Greater Mind than Tim Caron

When it comes to Strength & Conditioning, application of relevant technologies, knowledge and application of the best training protocols and understanding and teaching of the physiology of various systems of the body as it relates to training, there is no greater mind than Tim Caron.

I have read both of Tim’s books, attended his Muscle Mentorship’s and subscribed to his online content and my understanding of training athletes and even my own workouts have never been better.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Programming Philosophy, Annual Plans, and Building a Better Weight Room with Coach Devin Young (Pitt)
Q: Give me a day in the life of a softball athlete offseason workout and how you structure it from ingress to cool down.
Tim outlines a detailed, flow-driven session that starts with testing and movement prep, proceeds through a structured A block of training (often cleans or Olympic movements), then core work and upper/lower body supersets, with specific attention to rest periods and adjustments for injuries or coming back from breaks, followed by a cooldown and a focus on sport-specific prep.
Programming Philosophy, Annual Plans, and Building a Better Weight Room with Coach Devin Young (Pitt)
Q: I want to kind of get into the potential debate that you have with some of your peers on the benefit of long-term planning. What would be some of the counters or the central point of the debate itself as to why it's kind of futile to do a long-term planning or periodization?
Devin explains that while schedules change a lot with team sports, having a clear framework for the year helps identify low-hanging fruits, balance training with practice, and still leaves room to adapt when delays or interruptions occur. He emphasizes planning a vision first (GPP, accumulation, intensification) and then mapping it onto the actual facility and season, using pencil-marked plans that can be erased as needed.
Scott Leech (URI) on Modern Football S&C Programming
Q: How do you determine when to move a player to more advanced programming?
Progression is driven by individual readiness, benchmark numbers, and the ability to perform at a higher level; if a freshman demonstrates exceptional development, they may fast-track, but the coach weighs safety and long-term development.
Scott Leech (URI) on Modern Football S&C Programming
Q: What does a typical off-season look like in your program?
The off-season is organized around a high-low approach, with an emphasis on max speed work, high-speed metrics, and structures that balance development with the realities of practice schedules, injuries, and readiness.
Scott Leech (URI) on Modern Football S&C Programming
Q: How would you define your philosophy in programming?
Leech emphasizes starting with holistic assessment, matching training to the current capabilities of each player, and scaling based on roster turnover and prior experience, using a whiteboard-based plan and a flexible, needs-driven approach.
