  • Brilliant

Sinead and Gavin are great journalists, but this podcast is great because they’re also proper fans of all Irish sport. You can feel that everything they say is a genuine opinion, and they aren’t just ‘reporting’.

Everything is covered (from the very serious, to the lighter stuff) and the analysis is excellent.

It’s all is well researched and the complicated topics are broken down brilliantly, so even a complete eejit like me can feel informed.

  • Great podcast

I really enjoy this podcast. It’s a great mix of sport, current affairs & politics. However, it drives me that neither presenter can properly pronounce GAA!

  • Excellent Pod

I’ve been a fan of Gavin for a few years now for his writing and his brilliant analysis and opinions on the football family he’s my favourite journalist if I’m being totally honest I only came across Sinead as recently enough when they teamed up for the daily Olympic pod and I can honestly say they work together so well and are absolutely brilliant together. The opinions and takes are spot on and I look forward to this podcast each week and what the guys will talk about. I definitely recommend ... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

How those who sent racist abuse to Edwin Edogbo could be caught
Q: What platforms are involved and how do you handle direct messages versus public posts?
We monitor major platforms and some fringe ones; direct messages are dealt with through reporting and through coaching staff when possible, with emphasis on preventing escalation and preserving evidence for action where appropriate.
How those who sent racist abuse to Edwin Edogbo could be caught
Q: How does the process work for a high-profile incident like Edwin Edogbo's debut?
Content flagged in monitoring is assessed, reports are made to platforms, welfare is checked with IRFU, and investigations investigate origin (inside or outside Ireland) and possible who is behind it, with decisions made by the client on next steps including potential involvement of law enforcement.
How those who sent racist abuse to Edwin Edogbo could be caught
Q: Can you explain who Signify is and what Threat Matrix does in layman's terms?
Signify is a data science company that monitors social media for content targeting athletes and match officials, assesses whether it breaches platform terms, and works with platforms to remove or limit it, escalating when there is a potential threat or when welfare of the individual is involved.
How RTÉ handed the GAA a goldmine for €3m
Q: What was your initial reaction to a business like that being sold, 50% of it being sold for 3 million?
The guest notes that €3 million for a stake in a proven, profitable streaming product looks like a favorable multiple given revenue and profit, especially when compared with other streaming valuations, though it raises questions about the relative value and strategic fit for RTÉ.
Why are we so happy? How does football make us feel this way?
Q: Why is it men's football that brings this kind of narrative to sport in ways that we feel it about other sports?
It's partly a socioeconomic thing and access thing. More people play the sport than any other sport.
