  • Appalling Tommy Robinson podcast

You’re only as good as your worst podcast and the podcast on Tommy Robinson was a disgrace. No discussion of the subject’s alleged Islamophobia. No questions around his alleged drug taking. No pushback on some of his outlandish and inaccurate statistics. No mention of his time in prison. That’s just the basic stuff. It’s not journalism, it’s platforming a dangerous individual. Forget about the Irish times

I live in California and really appreciate getting a world perspective from Ireland and the UK. The news is balanced and offers news and culture from outside the U.S. bubble. Thank you.

  • Obnoxious contributor Kneecap episode

From an Irish Times subscriber, what an elitist and biased podcast contributor Hugh Linehan is on the recent Kneecap episode.

Stick to writing, his disdain for people doesn’t come across quite as strong on the newspaper page.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Why the Kinahans are trapped in Dubai
Q: Why hasn't Garda action been taken against the Kinahans despite their high-profile status and sanctions?
Officials explained that while Garda and Dubai police coordinate and monitor, the core challenge is gathering sufficient evidence to secure charges, and Dubai has not pursued prosecutions there; any charges would likely arise in Ireland or elsewhere with international cooperation.
How the culture wars spread to Ireland
Q: Could you explain the difference between misinformation and disinformation?
Disinformation is information that is knowingly false and spread on purpose, while misinformation is false information spread without the intention to mislead; both contribute to misinformation in public discourse.
Why is Ireland buying weapons from France?
Q: Why choose France over other suppliers?
France is preferred due to close defense cooperation, geographic proximity, a stable democracy, established training links, and fewer supply risks compared to potential reliance on American suppliers or other EU partners; it also aligns with a broader European defense strategy.
Why is Ireland buying weapons from France?
Q: How much is the deal worth and why now?
There are several deals, with the latest government-to-government arrangement for hundreds of armored vehicles potentially valued at hundreds of millions to around 600 million euros, justified by the need to modernize aging equipment and boost interoperability with France, a longstanding ally.
Trump's Iran war: Is there a plan, and do Americans support it?
Q: Keith, what now in terms of American foreign policy?
Keith describes a sense of uncertainty about the next steps, with calls for clearer direction from the administration and skepticism about a coherent strategy beyond the immediate action.
