  • Almost as bland as Claire “Bland”Byrne

Few months in now with new presenter and the programme has some excellent content but is still following a very very predictable pattern and style of bland interview of our political class who are directly responsible for the continual crisis in our Health, Housing , Education and Environmental crises

RTÉ is not sufficiently impartial in its reporting on these and other issues.

  • Banal

What used to be a staple is now very occasional. It’s like watching a loved one with alzheimers disappear before your very eyes.

  • Excellent

David interviews very interesting guests covering various topics of interest. Short segments; he asks great questions and allows his guest to speak on their area of expertise.

  • RTE Lag Way Behind Newstalk

It’s been a few months since David McCullagh took over from Claire and it’s disappointing so far. McCullagh is a journeyman presenter like many but not good enough to present the flagship show. I have great difficulty believing that RTE are unable to find someone better. The production team are not helping with banal topics. Newstalk continues to lead.

  • Almost as bland as Claire Byrne

David needs to up his game remove his FFG hat and start taking a more balanced approach to his show. He is in grave danger of out blanding the bland previous version of this series!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Cannabis in vapes analysed by HSE
Q: How serious a public health concern is this?
It is a very serious public health concern, given that semi-synthetic and fully synthetic cannabinoids can cause fatal outcomes, psychosis, depression, and other mental health problems, with stronger effects than traditional cannabis and with additional carcinogenic risks when smoked. The lack of safety checks in the supply chain and the ability for new, technically legal variants to appear quickly compound the risk, underscoring the need for stronger regulation and primary prevention.
Why ACL injuries in Gaelic sport are on the rise at all levels
Q: How important is centralized injury data for Gaelic games, and can we learn from other sports?
Centralized, anonymized injury databases are critical to understand injury patterns across genders and levels; examples from AFL and other sports illustrate how data can guide safer training and game practices.
Why ACL injuries in Gaelic sport are on the rise at all levels
Q: What preventative measures can clubs implement to reduce ACL injuries?
Established pre-game warm-ups and conditioning programs, such as Gaelic 15, have shown potential to cut ACL risk significantly; coaches' engagement with these exercises and parent/club education are key components of prevention.
Why ACL injuries in Gaelic sport are on the rise at all levels
Q: What do you think is behind the surge in ACL injuries, and is it an epidemic or increased attention?
There is more attention now, but the consensus among experts is that multiple factors—faster, more physical play, more space in the game, and non-evidence-based assumptions—aren't solely to blame; ongoing data collection and analysis are needed to identify real trends.
Ann Travers reacts to confirmation of meeting with President Connolly
Q: Is it the public nature of it that upset you the most?
Yes, the public nature of the meeting and photo felt retraumatizing, reinforcing the sense that victims must continually fight for recognition and that reconciliation should not erase what families endured.
