  • Banal

What used to be a staple is now very occasional. It’s like watching a loved one with alzheimers disappear before your very eyes.

  • Excellent

David interviews very interesting guests covering various topics of interest. Short segments; he asks great questions and allows his guest to speak on their area of expertise.

  • RTE Lag Way Behind Newstalk

It’s been a few months since David McCullagh took over from Claire and it’s disappointing so far. McCullagh is a journeyman presenter like many but not good enough to present the flagship show. I have great difficulty believing that RTE are unable to find someone better. The production team are not helping with banal topics. Newstalk continues to lead.

  • Almost as bland as Claire Byrne

David needs to up his game remove his FFG hat and start taking a more balanced approach to his show. He is in grave danger of out blanding the bland previous version of this series!

  • Phillip Boucher-Hayes on “Today”

There can be no doubt that Phillip is the perfect replacement for Claire. His voice and intonation can be both serious and entertaining. Past master of the nuance and inflection. His style and quick wit brooks no bull when interviewing. He has that special quality called radio presence. Reminiscent of Pat Kenny in his glory days.

One-off housing: Rules set to change to allow more building
Q: What are the trade-offs of loosening the rules?
Trade-offs include potential increases in car dependence, higher infrastructure and public service costs (schools, transport, broadband), and the need to balance development with environmental and climate targets.
One-off housing: Rules set to change to allow more building
Q: What exactly are these changes and why now?
The changes would relax restrictive guidelines that have treated rural housing as overly constraining, with the intention of allowing people with local ties to build on family land and in areas with existing connections, while still maintaining safeguards and local considerations.
Jobseekers reform: What is the new working‑age payment?
Q: Laura, what are the key aims of the Working Age Payment and how might it look in practice?
The aims are to simplify the system, raise take-up, remove anomalies, and ensure work pays by encouraging more hours while providing safeguards to avoid over-penalizing changes in employment status. The specifics—such as payment levels and eligibility rules—are still being consulted on.
Catherine Bailey Sean Rock’s Partner
Q: What is Catherine Bailey seeking as a resolution?
She wants to meet with RTÉ leadership in person to discuss why Sean was misclassified for so many years and to understand how the pension and life benefits can better reflect his career at RTÉ, including a fair settlement for his family.
