  • Pat the Great

I haven’t lived in Ireland for year so depend on Pat for authentic news and reviews, he is an island of truth in an ocean of misinformation, can’t wait for his weekend gig in March

  • Mid-sentence ads

The content of the podcasts is usually good but the frequency and placement of the ads makes them unbearable to listen to. A podcast might only be 5 or 6 minutes long but still have multiple ads, some of which are cut in to interrupt in the middle of a sentence. It displays a complete last of respect for the listener.

  • Blatantly Biased

Pat cannot hide his Trump derangement syndrome. 99.9% of his contributors on United States affairs are liberals. Whenever he (almost never) has a conservative on, they tend to be the least able to articulate their counter arguments. He couldn’t hold his own against a real conservative. Seems there are no conservatives in Europe. They’re ALL labeled far-right extremists.

His panels invariably consist of three liberals and no conservatives

    Zero balance.

  • Pat Is a Radio Legend

Pat brings sharp analysis. Henry McKean does not. Henry needs to find a new career path as he is not a reporter. He’s more of a detraction than an addition and damages the PK brand.

  • Ads nightmare

I really enjoy this show but the podcast segments are a disaster!! Recently, ads are thrown in - usually in the middle of a conversation (sometimes even a sentence). It’s so off putting. To make it worse the sound of the ads is far louder than the actual episode. Surely this can be sorted. It’s bad enough having to listen to the long ads at the start of each episode.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Same Irish butter, two prices: What’s going on?
Q: Talk to me about the brand. Is Kerrygold simply butter or do they use it to brand other things?
Kerrygold is primarily butter, but its branding elevates the image of Irish dairy overall in global markets. The premium perception extends beyond butter to influence how Irish dairy products are viewed, which complicates competitive dynamics when other brands or co-ops attempt to enter higher-volume segments.
Same Irish butter, two prices: What’s going on?
Q: Tell me about these two butters, what are they and where do they come from?
They are essentially the same product origin from Irish co-ops, with Kerrygold positioned as the premium brand in many markets, while other outlets like Costco in the US carry non-Kerrygold, grass-fed private-label butter. The contrast highlights different pricing strategies and distribution channels, and the potential risk to Kerrygold's premium positioning if volume-driven products compete in the same markets.
Gilbert O'Sullivan: Celebrating 60 years in show business
Q: Can you remember the embarrassing names of your early bands?
Pat Kenny asks about the early band names, and Gilbert recalls the progression from a school band to The Joy/Supertramp, highlighting the risk and ambition that propelled him toward a professional music career.
Mladic’s death and Bosnia’s unhealed wounds
Q: Has time healed old wounds or will the marking of his death actually open new ones?
The host frames the question and the guest responds that while justice is a symbol of accountability, the deeper wounds from Srebrenica persist, with many survivors and regional observers noting that Mladic's death does not erase the trauma or the memory of genocide.
Betrayal: Trump, Putin and the New Age of Conquest
Q: How long can Putin sustain the war without a major concession from the West or a shift in internal dynamics?
Harding articulates that Putin may rely on military and political endurance, possible mobilization, and the erosion of Western consensus to prolong the conflict, though the outcome remains uncertain and contingent on multiple evolving factors.
