  • Pat the Great

I haven’t lived in Ireland for year so depend on Pat for authentic news and reviews, he is an island of truth in an ocean of misinformation, can’t wait for his weekend gig in March

  • Mid-sentence ads

The content of the podcasts is usually good but the frequency and placement of the ads makes them unbearable to listen to. A podcast might only be 5 or 6 minutes long but still have multiple ads, some of which are cut in to interrupt in the middle of a sentence. It displays a complete last of respect for the listener.

  • Blatantly Biased

Pat cannot hide his Trump derangement syndrome. 99.9% of his contributors on United States affairs are liberals. Whenever he (almost never) has a conservative on, they tend to be the least able to articulate their counter arguments. He couldn’t hold his own against a real conservative. Seems there are no conservatives in Europe. They’re ALL labeled far-right extremists.

His panels invariably consist of three liberals and no conservatives

    Zero balance.

  • Pat Is a Radio Legend

Pat brings sharp analysis. Henry McKean does not. Henry needs to find a new career path as he is not a reporter. He’s more of a detraction than an addition and damages the PK brand.

  • Ads nightmare

I really enjoy this show but the podcast segments are a disaster!! Recently, ads are thrown in - usually in the middle of a conversation (sometimes even a sentence). It’s so off putting. To make it worse the sound of the ads is far louder than the actual episode. Surely this can be sorted. It’s bad enough having to listen to the long ads at the start of each episode.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ireland's Precarious Energy Infrastructure
Q: So what will this ultimately mean for consumers here?
The expert suggests that the IEA's coordinated release is intended to stabilize prices, but the actual impact on consumer prices is uncertain and will depend on multiple evolving factors, including the Middle East situation and global demand; the expectation is a stabilizing rather than drastic immediate price change.
Kilmacurragh Gardens: Wicklow’s hidden wonderland
Q: Does the Kilmacurragh estate still have a standing house after the restoration efforts?
Pat Kenny probes the status of the estate's house, and Diarmuid Gavin explains that while the roof history has been complicated, restoration is ongoing with scaffolding visible and a commitment from the Office of Public Works to maintain and restore parts of the property.
Sally Hayden, Award-Winning Journalist and Author
Q: How did the Ukraine experiences shape your understanding of personal relationships during war?
The stories reveal that war is deeply intimate, affecting how couples navigate absence, risk, and the desire to stay connected, with mental health ramifications becoming a central theme of resilience.
Sally Hayden, Award-Winning Journalist and Author
Q: What stood out about the Lebanon chapter and the bank raid on Basam?
The Lebanon chapter shows a society grappling with financial collapse and moral ambiguity, while Basam's bank raid raises questions about where money ends and humanity begins, illustrating how people react under desperation and how communities interpret such acts.
Sally Hayden, Award-Winning Journalist and Author
Q: Why did you write the book?
I wanted to document not just the violence and despair, but the moments of love and solidarity I see every day in crisis zones, to remind readers that love persists even in the harshest circumstances.
