  • The Race-to-the-Bottom continues.🙄

Brendan facilitating Paul Howard and that little old hunchback Chris De Burgh back slapping and kissing each other’s arses and massaging each other’s egos was nauseating in the extreme. I expected better from Paul Howard. Superficiality at its best. 🙄

  • Brendan afraid of libel, and losing the well-paid gig

Generally a good mix of contributors to the newspaper panel but Brendan constantly feels the need to limit what guests can say or to dilute what they’ve said. ‘To be fair’, let’s be careful now’ All in all, one of the better shows

  • The Race-to-the-Bottom continues.🙄

The Sunday show is dreadful. Time to re-vamp the time slot with a new show and a new presenter and production team. I didn’t think it could get any worse but…

The Brenda Fricker interview was excellent and redeeming for the failing show.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

“I thought art didn’t exist in Ireland” - artist, Dorothy Cross
Q: Tell me about Valencia and the Stab at Matter project in the cave.
Valencia offered an extraordinary site for staging an operatic project inside a slate cave, combining a countertenor, soprano, baroque orchestra, and a large projection screen; it explored the body and spirit, and how they come together through performance, resulting in a striking, ephemeral work that was performed only three times.
“I thought art didn’t exist in Ireland” - artist, Dorothy Cross
Q: So, as you mentioned there, you did go to the Crawford Art School in Cork for a while, but then why did you go to San Francisco?
I believed art didn't exist in Ireland at the time and wanted to pursue opportunities abroad; after writing to several colleges and facing many no's, I was helped by a patron who funded my move to pursue art education in San Francisco.
“I was a bit player in my parents’ drama, a parentified eldest daughter”
Q: Can you give me in two minutes the gist of the book?
The story anchors itself in issues of power and exploitation, showing how a speculative world uses literal life-force to critique takers versus givers, while parallelly tracing a woman's journey from a constricted, parentified childhood to a personal awakening through love, resilience, and creative output.
Leo Varadkar: ‘I think the European-Atlantic relationship is changed forever’
Q: Do you think the world has changed forever, or will things revert?
The world changes all the time, but this European-Atlantic relationship has permanently shifted; Europe needs to strengthen its foreign policy and military capacity regardless of who is in power in the US.
Leo Varadkar: ‘I think the European-Atlantic relationship is changed forever’
Q: So I just wanted to get your take on the events of the past week. How do you reflect on what's happening in the Middle East and how do you see this playing out?
I think it's not good and I don't see how it ends well; the reasons offered by major players have varied and are not compelling enough to justify a renewed war, and the current trajectory risks destabilizing the region further.
