  • So much fun

Ed and Amanda are so much fun to listen to—makes my commute go by much quicker. Their daredevil episodes are my favorites, though I do love listening to them disagree about the recs they give each other in the “normal” episodes.

  • Wonderfully entertaining

Hands down my favourite writing podcast of all time. You won’t find a better combination of entertainment, education and well-timed innuendos anywhere else. My only issue with it is that I had to stop listening to the podcast on my commute to work because I’d get strange looks from people on the train when I’d start snort-wheezing like a chain-smoking pig - the out-takes at the end kill me every time.

  • Love this podcast

Amanda and Ed are hugely entertaining but somehow informative as well. Their discussions of their writing competitions are brilliant. Their analysis of where writers go astray, and where they hit the mark, is so useful. Highly recommended.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Interview with Frank Bongiorno at Words on the Waves 2024 (#9)
Q: Is there an era that you view as the golden age of Australian politics?
The Whitlam era is significant for its possibilities, but also the efficiency of governments like Menzies and the reform successes of Hawke and Keating.
Interview with Frank Bongiorno at Words on the Waves 2024 (#9)
Q: What do you think about the current crop of politicians compared to historical leaders?
The current politicians operate in a much more difficult environment, lacking the visionary qualities of past leaders like Whitlam.
Interview with Kate Forsyth at Words on the Waves 2024 (#11)
Q: Can you tell us about your Reader's Retreat?
It's like a travelling book club where we read books inspired by the myths of the places we visit, such as Medusa in Athens and Charmin Clift in Hydra.
Interview with Kate Forsyth at Words on the Waves 2024 (#11)
Q: Do you have a background in Greek mythology, or is this just a story that stood out to you as something to write about?
I have a doctorate in fairy tale and mythic studies, so that kind of helps. A lot of my books draw upon myth or fairy tale in new and surprising ways.
Interview with Benjamin Stevenson at Words on the Waves 2024 (#8)
Q: Do you find, now that you've had this commercial success, that you have more creative freedom?
Yes, my publishers have always trusted me, and now I feel more confident to explore unique and risky ideas in my writing.
