  • Down to earth chat about books with interesting guests.

I really like this sweet podcast. Michelle and Kate bring an authenticity to the subject of books and authors, always with an Irish slant. They put their guests at ease and you feel like you’re in the room with them, having a cuppa. I look forward to each new episode dropping. Five stars.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S4 EP4 Dr. Marie Cassidy
Q: What prompted you to move from public forensic work to writing fiction and memoirs?
The desire to process decades of case material in a way that preserves truth while also exploring human stories led me to write, first my memoirs and then fiction, using narrative to give voices to victims and families.
S4 EP4 Dr. Marie Cassidy
Q: How has your approach to explaining death in court evolved since you started?
I used to rely on blunt, comforting platitudes but now I aim to be precise yet compassionate, acknowledging what I can say without overstepping and always centering on what the family needs to hear to move forward.
Edel Coffey on the Inspiration Behind “In Glass Houses”, Writing Thrillers and Raising the Bar
Q: If you had only one page and one day left, what would you write and to whom would you write it?
Edel would write the story she's not allowed to write, a long-held idea that has been simmering for years. It may or may not be published, but it must be written to release it from her system.
S4 EP6 Felicity Hayes-McCoy
Q: What inspired you to center a Finfarran book around a bookshop and a village's literary ecosystem?
The inspiration came from wanting a community hub rather than a single location; the library and an independent bookshop became central as spaces that bring people together, allowing readers and locals to connect with stories and each other, which also naturally ties into eco-tourism and local culture.
S4 EP6 Felicity Hayes-McCoy
Q: Tell our listeners a little bit about the new book and the four generations of Sullivan women.
The book is set around a Midlands hotel called Castle Hill, following Nora Sullivan and her granddaughter Moira, with four generations of women exploring family dynamics, motherhood, and the evolving relationships across time, all framed within a weekend gathering that uncovers long-held tensions and alliances.
