  • Lack-Lustre

Poor Miriam does her best but she’s not great. The guests are lack lustre at very best. RTE needs to revamp their weekend shows urgently. Surely the national broadcaster can do better. I can see why Newstalk are doing better in the ratings but they shouldn’t be.

  • What the....?

How..HOW did this woman ever get on the broadcast media? Annoying, amateur interview style - “did it make you sad” and other inane questions. Way out of her depth on any topic and cringe inducing to listen to. In an interview about Brexit, she thought referring to someone as a patsy was disrespectful to the Irish..you could not make this up, she is satire gold without even trying.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Celine Byrne
Q: But what does it mean practically to you in your life, Celine, that you do have a strong faith? I mean, do you pray? How does it manifest itself?
Byrne explains that faith is a daily anchor, often expressed through prayer, family traditions, and mental health talks; she believes faith provides unconditional love and guidance, helping her manage anxiety and maintain perspective amid a busy career.
Celine Byrne
Q: Now, listen, this fantastic show, the concert and the songs, give me the broad strokes. How did you go about choosing the songs for these concerts?
By reflecting on personal meaning and accessibility for audiences, Byrne describes drawing from a mix of popular songs, operatic arias, and personally significant pieces to create a diverse and uplifting program that resonates with both Irish and international audiences.
Reverend Paul Colton
Q: What are your reflections on the history you've witnessed, especially during Ireland's centenaries?
He aimed to empower congregations to tell their own memories, presenting multiple narratives rather than a single official view, especially regarding events like 1916 and the Civil War.
Reverend Paul Colton
Q: How does being married and having a family affect your role compared to a Catholic priest who lives largely alone?
Marriage and family provide grounding and balance; Susan has been a constant support, and their shared life keeps him grounded during public duties and in education work.
Reverend Paul Colton
Q: Congratulations, or is it commiserations? Why did you decide to retire? Why now, Paul?
The time seemed right; at 66 with 27 years as bishop, he plans to relinquish the office but remains a bishop in a broader sense and looks forward to rest, travel, and new opportunities.
