  • Great pod but…

I love this pod esp because of Sarah Cox. She’s such a natural ❤️Esp like the listeners’ choices as I always come away with lots of ideas for new books.

However, have just tried to listen to most recent episode with a NZ author and had to turn it off due to HUGELY irritating music playing in the background for the duration of the interview! Totally unnecessary and utterly distracting. Please stop! Let’s just listen to the guest without annoying layered noise! Thank you. Apart from this, it’s s... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

'A Splintering' by Dur e Aziz Amna
Q: What made you want to explore Tara's desires?
Amna reflects on the extreme inequality felt in society and the envy that social media breeds, leading her to create a character driven by desire.
Dawn O'Porter (recorded at Radio 2 In The Park)
Q: I just wondered, just your husband Chris O'Dowd, do you speak to him about the characters? Does he get to have a first read and critique your work?
Chris doesn't read the book until they're published and out and in book form. I'm really secretive.
Dawn O'Porter (recorded at Radio 2 In The Park)
Q: When you're writing books, do you treat it like a job and like do nine to a five, or do you have to wait till you get inspired by something?
I absolutely do a nine to five. That's why I got my office. I drop the kids off at school and I go to work.
Dawn O'Porter (recorded at Radio 2 In The Park)
Q: Your book situation at home, have you got orderly shelves? Have you got piles of books all over the place?
I've got piles of books everywhere. My office is, there's no room to write. It's just piles and piles of books.
'Katabasis' by R.F. Kuang
Q: Did you feel like you have to scrub yourself in the shower after you'd finished your day of writing?
Not so much scrubbing myself in the shower, but I did have to go and read a couple dozen pages of good pros in a different century so that I wasn't thinking in the language of the Internet anymore.
