I love this podcast! My favourite episodes are actually when there isn’t a guest and Sara and Cariad talk so engagingly about the book that the adverts just have to cut in because there isn’t a pause! When I struggle to sleep at night, I put an episode on so that I feel like I’m with friends.
I started on episodes with books I'd already read, and I have mixed feelings. The most objectively negative aspect is that when they have more than one guest they talk over each other and are itching to get their own point across. The other aspect I dislike, which is more subjective, is that the novel world is generally treated as a real thing rather than the author's construct.
Yellowface in particular was ripe for analysis of what the author wanted to say and why the choice of a female narrat... more
I’m so glad the podcast is back for another season! I’ve gotten into the habit of listening to an episode, then reading the book, then listening to the episode again to see what I agree with and what felt different to me. Such a great podcast for new and diverse book recommendations. My favourite episodes are when you have someone on who brings THEIR favourite book with them, listening to you talk about books other people have recommended is always so interesting. Thank you for telling everyone ... more
I’ve seen a few reviews here complaining it’s not very analytical/they talk over each other. Whilst I can see these criticisms, I think it depends what you’re after! In my opinion, both Sara and Cariad are really easy and a joy to listen to; it’s like hearing your friends have a fun chat about books they like…it’s not a university seminar!! I love how they view things and they choose such interesting books and guests to discuss reading with. It’s my favourite thing to listen to on dog walks 🥰
I love this podcast but the first episode of series 3 was impossible to listen to as both Sara and Cariad were talking over each other and the guest. Such interesting books and I love the chat but PLEASE let each other finish a sentence
