  • Larry Miller - The New York Voice of God

I could listen to Larry read an instruction manual to something very uninteresting and be completely enthralled and excited about it. One of the best voices out there! Love the topics. Love the storytelling. Love the pod.

This podcast is brilliant in its selection of topics and the conversations are so insightful. After each episode, I typically have a list of 5-6 items to research that I didn’t know or understand, so it pushes me and helps me expand my understanding. Loyal listener!

  • How music got modernized

I have liked this podcast in general for 2 years but the MMA episode was the best I’ve heard. Great guests, great content, straight to the point with no bias or slant and the perfect length to digest.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

AI & Music: Tool or Threat?
Q: What has moved slower than expected in AI music?
The slower realization has been around practical mechanisms for attribution and royalty structures, despite rapid technical progress and licensing activity.
Catalogs and Capital
Q: Why has institutional investor interest in music rights increased recently?
Investors are drawn by the stability and predictability of cash flows from music rights, the growth of asset-backed securitizations, and catalysts like Spotify's direct listing and major label/indie IPOs that raised awareness of music as a durable asset class.
Catalogs and Capital
Q: What is net label share?
Net label share is the gross profit from recorded music royalties minus the royalties paid back to artists, while net publisher share is the analogous measure for publishing. Deals are priced as multipliers of these net shares, with the exact multiple depending on portfolio characteristics, vintage, and the potential for future cash flows.
What's a Superfan?
Q: How does Even balance giving fans early access with preserving the value of streaming?
Even operates as a complementary layer to streaming, using a buy-now model and community access that sustains fan engagement while still allowing streaming to drive discovery and long-term growth.
What's a Superfan?
Q: What was the core insight or pain point that led you to create Even?
Mag describes a shift from streaming-centric thinking to a model that enables artists to sell direct to fans before or alongside streaming, inspired by the rise of DC/commerce platforms and the need for artists to own their relationship with fans.
