  • Thanks for glazing TikTok

Loved how you didn’t ask Ole any hard questions about why they don’t pay for music consumption and just sat there and nodded like a dummy when he told you about their new exciting plans to pay publishers in exposure, let musicians hawk their own CDs like they’re on QVC, and giving brands music to use in ads without paying for them (did Apply pay Feist for that commercial sync Ole?) Whenever I want to hear two guys discuss the music business news from two weeks ago this is where I turn to first.

While far from from being irrelevant, the majors seem more interested in... more

YMC Special Episode - A Conversation With Doc McGhee
Q: Have there been any moments where you had to choose between what was best for the business and what you believed was best for the artist?
This comes up often, but it's ultimately about supporting the artist's brand and making decisions that protect it.
YMC Special Episode - A Conversation With Doc McGhee
Q: What do you think is the most common misconception about the manager-artist relationship?
Many people don't understand the complexities of the relationship and the reality of the business, assuming it's all glamorous.
YMC Special Episode - A Conversation With MIDiA's Tatiana Cirisano
Q: Are there any strategies that you might recommend for artists or labels looking to build a more loyal, but really engaged fan?
Focus marketing efforts in spaces where fans are likely transitioning naturally to discovery and listen-through next steps, rather than relying solely on social media marketing.
YMC Special Episode - A Conversation With MIDiA's Tatiana Cirisano
Q: So how is this going to affect the DSPs, the Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora, Deezer?
Streaming services need to add more context around songs and artists rather than focus solely on songs because they are competing for consumer attention with social media.
YMC Special Episode - A Conversation With MIDiA's Tatiana Cirisano
Q: What factors do you think contribute to that disconnect that you talk about between virality on social media and then real engagement among younger audiences?
Consumers often get stuck at the song clip on social media without advancing to deeper engagement like streaming or exploring more of the artist's catalog.
