  • Used to be my favourite podcast

(2011-2019 = 5 stars) I’ve been a listener to Music Biz Weekly since mid-2011 and it’s the only Music Marketing Podcast where I’ve listened to every episode at least twice! Some I’ve used as resource material and I’ve probably listened to them northward of 10 times each.

Hoping MB will get up the whole back catalogue up at some point on this feed.

… update 2026 - this used to be my favourite podcast.

  • Live Nation

The Live Nation case discussion was very informative. I watched them buy up regional promoters and shove out anyone who wanted to stay independent. Was so disappointed when the Ticketmaster merger was approved.

I’m rooting for Steven and Independent Venue Association!

RUDY SARZO Talks About Why & How He Used AI On His New Music
Q: Do you see AI as something you need to use because of the old industry economics?
Yes, AI serves as a budget-friendly path to demos and creation, helping musicians who previously needed expensive studio time to still develop and finish music.
Is Blue Dot Fever Real? How to Tour During Tough Times with Bruce Houghton
Q: What can artists do right now to survive a tough touring season?
Think strategically: hold residencies, focus on regional tours, maximize pre-sales and on-sales, offer value with co-bills, share expenses, and build direct fan contact data for targeted outreach.
Is Blue Dot Fever Real? How to Tour During Tough Times with Bruce Houghton
Q: Is Blue Dot Fever mainly real or just a media headline?
Bruce suggests it's real in the sense that high-end tours affect the market, but headlines sensationalize the issue; the bigger point is the money and attention shift away from mid-to-lower tier shows.
The Live Nation Case – What This Means For Artists, Independent Venus and Fans
Q: How might fans see the impact on ticket prices and data access?
Remedies could lead to lower fees and prices if competition increases, but changes will take time to implement; data access to artists could improve, enabling better targeted promotions, while encourage more open use of fan data where legal.
The Live Nation Case – What This Means For Artists, Independent Venus and Fans
Q: What does this mean for artists in practical terms?
If Live Nation is broken up, artists could gain more booking options and better access to venues, with regional promoters re-emerging and more competition in ticketing, potentially leading to more tour opportunities and less market dominance by a single promoter.
