When Dawn is killed in a house fire the day after Christmas, the pastor and his flock are devastated. What few knew at the time was the dark prophecy that foretold it. When I first started istening to Dateline podcasts I was like, “Why is Dr. Phil narrating a crime story?”
Seems like another case of people who think following God means checking your common sense at the door. All I can think while listening is poor Dawn, poor Dawn.
Another crazy dateline story.
Just when you thought this tale couldn’t get worse, it did. I won’t soon forget this one. Josh always does an amazing job of telling the tales of these people.
NBC is the most overproduced, excessively melodramatic network. You can tell how much editing is done with the interviews, the sound bites thrown in with the stupid BELL sound right after. It’s just so dressed up, and feels disingenuous. This guy’s voice is just trying too hard.
As a pastor, the story breaks my heart, but I think they did a great job in presenting it and keeping it very fair. I love the narrators from dateline and they do such a great job.
RIP Dawn
Love Dateline, love this! Such a welcome distraction from mundane job
It’s just all padding with quotes repeated again and again, the is maybe 2 episodes worth of content here.
Question for you to review your review review and your review
My father was fooled by con artists using religion to get what they want, and I lost everything to get away. It breaks my heart that others are fooled by such monsters who seem to know how to progressively twist people’s minds.
I am eight years old soon to be nine and the podcast are life I feel like I was getting older. I should start exploring an area that we’re not appropriate when I was younger because I have a very low level of confidence in growing up
This podcast should be called,
Stupid Disgusting Woman.
I’m quitting a couple episodes in. Agree with those saying NBC and Josh are jumping on an easy-to-sensationalize story. And the sensational part is that “White male christian leaders brainwashed Christian women and had affairs with them; one ended up taking the life of his wife ‘in the name of God’.” Okaaay….actually all murderers are twisted in their own way, religiously or otherwise, and this series could’ve been one episode. Mankiewicz insists on harping every five minutes on the fact that th... more
The women in this podcast are idiots that hide and manipulate God and the Bible to do foul things just like Nick. They all deserve what comes their way.

This series leans into high-stakes true crime with a heavy focus on religion, sex, and moral ambiguity within tight-knit communities. Across recent episodes, hosts profile shocking cases involving a pastor, a marriage under strain, and deadly consequences, all framed through investigative storytelling, interviews, and documentary-style narration. Expect careful scrutiny of evidence, contested guilt, and personal testimonies that illuminate the human side of crime, as well as strong editorial control that foregrounds the consequences for families and communities. A notable angle is the fusion of spiritual belief with criminal manipulation, creating a distinctive lens on motive, accountability, and justice that may appeal to listeners who enj... more
