  • I’m not gonna say this content has changed my life, however….

Since I started engaging with this community, and following the resources offered by MDOT guests, I’m on three less medications, sleeping through the night, lost 10 SSRI lbs and gained a few friends. My new primary doctor, MDOT guest recommended, caught a major medical interaction that all my other doctors missed. Even when I asked for Rx reviews because I knew something was wrong. And life is starting to physically and mentally feel a little different. That’s pretty major stuff. On a minor note... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

MDOT with Ashlyn Lelej
Q: What should someone do if they're looking for a qualified speech-language pathologist?
Check licenses in the relevant state, use ASHA's directory (asha.org) to find licensed professionals, and verify credentials; insurance coverage varies, but private pay options and grants can make therapy accessible.
MDOT with Phil Miller
Q: How do you handle the licensing and cross-state practice issues that therapists face?
Licensing rules are complex and state-bound; telehealth has made this more urgent to fix, but currently therapists must navigate boards in each state where clients reside, which is a major barrier.
MDOT with Phil Miller
Q: Do you mostly see married couples, or are there many who are dating or engaged?
Most clients are married, but there are also many who are pre-marital or in earlier stages of commitment; the core dynamics are similar across these statuses.
MDOT with Phil Miller
Q: What's the main issue you usually see as the reason couples seek therapy?
The most common entry point is difficulties with communication and connection, where couples feel they're not understanding each other and want help seeing the other person's perspective.
MDOT with Heather Herington
Q: What would you say to someone trying to understand borderline when they have little context?
Explain it using the nine diagnostic criteria, emphasizing emotional instability, identity issues, and fear of abandonment, while noting that many symptoms can look like normal behaviors in young adulthood but may indicate a disorder when persistent and disruptive.
