It's been a hot minute since the boys did a "pop" episode, but given this very special installment is devoted to jazz-rock gods of the seventies Steely Dan, maybe this doesn't count. The Dan's somewhat controversial 1980's sign-off gets a good look i... more
Some indie labels find a happy home in the afterlife - think Prestige, Contemporary, et al who thrived for years under the Fantasy banner and are now sheltered under the wing of Craft Records. Others aren't so lucky. Super-producer and Record Store D... more
"High Concept" is sometime used as a derogatory term for movies that are more about a saleable idea than a good script. This installment of the podcast is definitely "high concept," but we can assure you, it still isn't particularly saleable. Struck ... more
Yep, it's one of those "what did Pat find at the record store?" episodes, with an emphasis on lesser known artists (unless the guitarist from Tortoise is a secret superstar). It's a testament to jazz's recent love affair with vinyl that the newest al... more

First time listening today while eating my lunch and listening to Chet Baker on Alexxa. Love your voice (but miss your face and baby blues)! Thank you Mike, coffee next? Jazz show in LA eventually? 😊

Love the show. You guys have a real knack for this. Commentary is always (mostly lol?) insightful and well thought out. Love the humor and whit y’all bring to each episode. Would love to hear an episode on Art Pepper!!
Keep up the good work!

Though I'm a jazz novice, I'm still able to comprehend and roll with a lot of what Mike & Patt discuss. I love how they come to the episode with knowledge, opinions (often contrasting), and witty banter. Well worth the listen- even if youre like me and not familiar with the genre.
Found this podcast recently and have listened to only a few episodes, but am already getting a lot from it. The Ornette Coleman episode is excellent and just what I needed to start diving deeper into his work. Thanks guys!
