In each episode, hosts Lizzie Bassett and Chris Winterbauer dive into a new film to explore the mind-blowing (and sometimes numbing) reasons why making a movie is nearly impossible (especially a good one). In 1999, Touchstone thought they had a surefire hit in the works. They had source material by the author of ‘Jurassic Park’ and the director of ‘Die Hard’ behind the camera! But soon things fell apart so spectacularly that ‘The 13th Warrior’ would be... more

You two have great chemistry and charisma when you talk about movies and your show is great . But you don’t have to apologize for everything that has not aged so will in every movie you cover. They are a comment on their time .Also the confidence (we know you are not film historians )with which you mis-state facts is breathtaking .I shotgunned all the eps though so there is that.
This is my new favorite podcast. I’m late to the game, but am quickly catching up binging all the episodes. I love the lively back and forth between Lizzie and Chris. They are so knowledgeable but also very funny. They clearly love movies and truly seem to enjoy working together. They somehow manage to not step on each other’s toes as they dig deep into each movie. I often catch myself smiling listening to their back and forth repartee. I hope they never retire; there are are so many more movies... more
I’ve listened to a bunch of movie podcasts over the years, and after listening to a handful of this one, it’s quickly become one of my favorites. The podcast has the basics down; good production value, great chemistry between the hosts, and great content. What tips this over the edge though is I’m not sure I’ve ever heard another movie podcast that includes the amount of research that they do…and it works. They also stick to discussing the movie, with a minimum of deviation from the topic. Love ... more
I have loved this show for a long time, but just wanted to send a special hug for the “Giant” episode. I was on a long hike, and listening to all the ways that Elizabeth Taylor created and helped AIDS research had me in a flood of tears. That’s why this show is so incredible. It goes beyond your typical film analysis into something truly heartfelt, and I’m so thankful for y’all for putting it together. Love from Savannah, GA. Warren 2026
The sound of Lizzie Basset’s voice breaking as she goes through the list of things Liz Taylor did for AIDS sufferers is worth the admission price alone. Her quasi-tears are just as infectious as her (frequent) giggles at the baroque madness of the perilous business of film as both art and enterprise. This is a wonderful show brimming with passion for the wild undertaking of filmmaking, and pulsing with good humour and heart. And the playful chemistry between Lizzie and Steve is a big part of wh... more
